WHERE TO GET THE FULL CALENDAR
This is a FREE version of the LEEP (Lewis’ Event, Editorial & Promotional) Calendar for November 2011. Though offered free, it is copyrighted. This excerpt version of the 2011 LEEP Calendar features the annual, monthly, weekly and daily events occurring during November 2011. The only difference between this version of November and the full version of November in the annual book, which includes all the months, is the category classifications are not included and the 12-month 13-page 17X11 wall calendar is not included.
The full version of this calendar is available as a paperback through various online retailers, in printable PDF and digital versions for Apple, Nook, Kindle, Sony, Palm and other portable reading devices through their respective stores or online through our site at www.prplanningcalendar.com
This information can give you a decided edge in marketing and publishing by allowing you to capitalize on trending events and popular search terms in advance. For example, holidays see an increase in search queries approximately 4-6 weeks prior. Sporting events, entertainment and other annual event searches peak in the three weeks prior to the event. Knowing this ahead of time you can create articles for posting that are timely and thus increase search engine traffic to your publication or blog well before your competition realizes what is happening.
The same principle applies to marketing. Use this calendar to identify when international or national focus on topics that relate to your industry will be occurring. You can capitalize on the increased interest and increase the effectiveness of your own marketing and public relations activities by piggybacking on the public relations wave created by the organizations backing that event. This also makes it easier to pitch journalists on the topic because you can tie your story idea into a trending and current topic making it more likely to be addressed.
What this calendar does is give you an edge over your competition by allowing you to know what is coming up and therefore preventing you from missing an opportunity to increase sales, traffic to your website or press mentions.
For teachers, you’ll never be at a loss for something interesting to teach your students about that directly relates to their current lives.
The following are just some of the ways you can use this calendar to excel in your chosen profession, whether you inform people, sell products and services or teach.
a) Use this calendar to plan features around topics that fit your market;
b) Use it to discover traditions you may not know exist;
c) Use it to identify issues currently receiving extra attention;
d) Use it to identify potential feature stories;
e) Use it for little trivia notations and “Did you know?” embellishments;
f) Use it to create a sense of urgency and unique proposition for reaching difficult sources;
g) Use it to collect additional facts on that topic for future stories;
h) Use it to capitalize on Tweet trends in advance;
i) Use it to plan features on upcoming events and increase your ranking on search engines;
j) Use it to identify trends.
a) Use it to generate more revenue.
If an organization has set aside a specific month, day or week, find out if additional co-op dollars are available from manufactures to capitalize upon that event. Check with the regional managers of companies and organizations that are affected by the special event. Often they will have funds set aside to increase awareness that you can use to develop a promotion or event dovetailing with the national or international event.
b) Use the calendar for advertising and promotional planning with agencies and individual companies.
Most marketing is planned 6-18 months in advance. Traditionally, fiscal years begin in September and budgets are finalized in July and August for the next year. The heightened awareness due to the PR push surrounding any of these events that falls within their market will make their products/services more desirable during that time.
c) Use it to bring in new advertisers.
The calendar is a tremendous icebreaker for new business development and a great strategy for securing that first meeting.
d) Use it to plan your own PR push for new products and services.
For example, if you are releasing a book on diabetes, October and November have several weekly, daily and monthly events designed to bring awareness to the public about diabetes maintenance, treatment, avoidance and living with the disease. This would be the ideal time to plan a book tour.
a) Use it for History:
Many of the days mark historic events that impact how we live today.
b) Use it to foster creativity:
Have the students come up with ways to acknowledge a specific day like ‘Do a Grouch a Favor Day’, ‘Random Acts of Kindness Day’ or ‘Incredible Kid Day’;
c) Use it to engage curiosity:
International Literacy Day
d) Use it to explore other cultures and traditions:
What is Diwali and how is it celebrated?
e) Use it to learn about global issues:
World Indigenous Peoples Day
__________
Month, Week and Day designations come from a variety of sources.
INTERNATIONAL OBSERVANCES: Most of the Global events in this calendar are from the United Nations and various NGO’s. These institutions and entities have designated specific days, weeks or months to raise awareness to a specific issue like clean water, ending slavery and human rights.
NATIONAL OBSERVANCES come from the US Government or various professional/business associations and interests groups. Most of these health, patriotic, historical or lifestyle related. The time is set aside to raise awareness of a specific issue, promote healthy lifestyle changes, honor certain achievements/people throughout history or promote humanism and cooperation.
RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES including Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim.
These dates are dynamic, meaning subject to change by the official designating agency of the event. Before you plan something around any of the days, run a search online and make sure the date has not changed. Changes can occur for a number of reasons:
a) Date in the calendar was not set at the time of this research and is estimated;
b) Date is moved due to scheduling conflicts, (entertainment, sports);
c) Date is moved due to environmental factors, (earthquake, floods, tornados);
d) Date is determined based upon that season’s competition schedule, (sports, entertainment);
e) Date is determined by the position of the sun, moon and/or stars and may fall a day earlier or later depending upon where you are located in the world, (religion);
f) Date is one of several similar dates in which an international organization declares it at one time during the year and a national at another;
g) Date is cancelled due to an unforeseen event such as political scandal, uprising, terrorist attack or key person’s death.
These are rare issues but possible. In most cases the dates are solid and will not change. Still, before committing resources to a date, verify.
With that said, I hope you find the following valuable, interesting and profitable.
