Joey lost his determination the moment he stepped into sports gym. There was a fairly large crowd of people for so late in the evening.
A group of men and women in lab coats stood around what looked to be a big wooden box. There was rustling sounds coming from the box.
Eric looked at Joey in concern.
"Are you going to be alright?"
Joey didn't answer. He wasn't sure if he would or not.
Eric patted him on the shoulder and went to talk to the Super Five. Joey stood there near the edge of the crowd and waited.
A young very skinny man stumbled up to him.
"You seen the Blueman?"
He didn't seem very coherent. His eyes were glassy and he didn't look like he knew where he was right now.
"I don't know who you are talking about."
The man turned to him wild eyed and started to shake. He spun around and then turned back.
"The Blue man is here somewhere. He comes to places like this."
Joey felt confused. The man ignored him. He pulled something from his pocket and stepped into Joey. He felt a strange prick.
"Ouch. What the hell?"
The man turned and ran away shaking his hands in the air.
"You do tend to attract the wild ones don't you?" Mike said beside him.
"Who was that?"
"Schizo. I don't know what his real name is."
"I think he pricked me with something."
Mike looked a little concerned, but just then music spilled through the loudspeakers.
"Will the pledge come to the middle of the floor?"
Joey followed Mike to the center of the big sports area's floor.
"You pledge have committed to do anything."
Cody had a microphone in his hand and was addressing Joey quite formally. He held the mic out to Joey.
"I have."
He wasn't so sure anymore. There was a much louder banging coming from the big wooden box now.
Cody threw him a cowboy hat.
"Then let the first challenge begin."
He took Joey by the arm and pulled him over to the box.
"Release the lid!"
The people in lab coats, which Joey realized were some of the people from the animal husbandry program, pulled on the rope at the back of the box.
The banging got louder.
"Bring the ladder!"
A short man who looked like he was having a hard day ran over with the ladder.
"Tonight, this one will ride the beast!"

FIRST VISIT
Joey stood outside of the big house. It was one of the largest houses on the block and there were dozens of people standing outside of it. Joey read the name above the door set in purple and orange neon lights: Alpha Mega Beta. That biggest fraternity on campus.
Joey was a little scared. He rubbed his sweaty hands on his blue jeans. When his father was in the military, he had been sent to this university. Before him was the fraternity he had joined. Now, Joey, the son, would follow in his father's footsteps, or at least he hoped.
He started to walk towards the front door. Inside of this house would be the ones that he would need to talk to. His father had told him stories of how the pledges worked and he was a little afraid of what the frat's leaders might do to him.
He took his first step through the doorway. It was an exciting moment and he felt a little dizzy. All around him young men and woman chatted around the outside of the house holding various different types of drinks in their hands.
Inside he found exactly what one would expect of a massive party. People were drinking and singing beer songs. A big breasted girl was letting people sign her breasts with a big felt pen. There were people dancing and chatting in groups. It all spoke of a fun and exciting experience, which was everything Joey wanted coming from a strict military camp home and school.
Someone grabbed him by the shoulders and turned him around. Joey came to face with a bucked tooth, dirty 20ish man with brown messy hair and wearing dark clothing.
"Man, you gotta have some cash. Come one hook me up."
Joey tried to escape, but the man had him firmly by the shoulders. He tried to respond, but was cut off.
"Hey, how about just $10. You can do that. You look like you got good money."
The man started to pat Joey down. He wanted to push the man away, but that might start a fight in this sort of environment and he didn't want to get in trouble on his first visit.
Joey pushed the man's insistent hands away from him. The man looked up at him with an angry look on his face.
