Dedication
This book is dedicated to Stephen, my husband of twenty-five years. Thank you for seeing the gifts God put in me, constantly encouraging me, and standing by my side every time I stepped out in faith. You’re a powerful prayer partner and friend.
I also wish to thank my parents, Pastor Chester and Beatrice Dickerson, Sr. Through your example of fifty years in marriage, I watched firsthand how a heaven-on-earth marriage can be possible. You are always in my heart!
Introduction
Have you ever awakened one morning, looked over at your spouse, and thought, “Oh my Lord, I’m really married! How did I get here? Did I make the right decision? Who is this person that I married?”
At some point in our lives, most of us have had these thoughts race through our minds during the early morning hours.
I remember hearing a statement from an elderly woman years ago that really made me think. She said, “Baby, marriage is for grown folk.” I thought of a few people I knew who were married but never seemed very grown up to me. In fact, they often acted like children. Nevertheless, I realized that marriage is something a couple should enter with their eyes open, not with an assumed hope that all will just automatically go well. “Marriage is for grown folk” and it should always be approached with caution.
