Chapter 1
The Rip Off Happens
We all know the worst case scenario, your driving along in your own little world when suddenly you feel the car weave and pull violently sideways, and you get a sudden smell of burning rubber. Or the pressure warning light gently beeps to let you know that you have lost pressure , or you come out from wherever you are and see the car leaning slightly, where you spot one of the tyres completely flat.
You call one of the many car break down services to either put your spare on OR tow you to a tyre garage. Or you go into the boot and grovel about in the road putting your spare on.
When you get to the tyre garage they take it from you spend 10 to 20 minutes with it, then they return with that suspicious grin and say “sorry you’re going to need a new tyre it’s not fixable because.............”, Then maybe shows you a tyre full of black dust, or something else that you really don't understand, Then tells you things that might OR might not be true.
You sigh that “oh not again sigh” choose the best tyre can afford and pay money sometimes into the hundreds of pounds, and drive away happy your car is fixed, but annoyed you had to pay all that money, a small voice inside you says “I wonder if I really did need a new tyre or have I been ripped off”
All you had to go by was the advice given to you by the person in the garage, After all you don't know if what he was showing and telling you is the truth.
And that's where this guide comes into dispel some of the myths and lies you MAY be told, To be able to arm yourself with facts so you can ask questions and see if you really do need to spend all that money on a new tyre or if your being ripped off.
