FOREWORD

Hi and welcome to this book on conjuring. Magic is a fascinating hobby and everyone loves being fooled.

Just one problem, where does one learn the tricks to see if this is something one would like to take further? Most of the time tricks are expensive to buy, and books are difficult to read and understand. This becomes an issue if you want to find out some basic secrets and see if this is a hobby you want to take further. Hence I have put this book together with some EASY tricks and most, if not all the items, you can find around the home.

Do not be put off by the simplicity of many of the tricks. Remember that we live in a technically advanced world and most people's brains just throw out the simple explanations automatically. As a professional who has travelled the whole world entertaining audiences, I am constantly amazed at the tricks that really fool everyone – it's usually the easy ones!

This must be the most fascinating career ever, there is not a day in my life that I am not grateful for the fun and the experiences I have had.

The biggest secret in magic though is – do not try to be clever, arrogant and smart with an attitude that you know something that other people don't. But, have fun with what you do and do it with passion. You audience will see this in you and feed of your positive and fun attitude – this is what will make your magic successful.

Warmest wishes

Wolfgang Riebe

SOME BASIC RULES

I would suggest that you acquaint yourself with some of these, and begin adhering to them from day one. They are as follows:

1) NEVER tell anyone the secret of a trick, otherwise everyone will soon know how all your tricks work, and you won't be able to perform these anymore!

2) Always practice a trick until you can do it perfectly. Only then should you consider performing it in front of other people.

3) Do not show all your tricks at once. You should always leave your audience wanting more.

4) Never repeat the same trick for the same audience, as they already know what to expect, and are therefore more likely to work it out.

5) Never let your tricks lie around for someone else to find and fiddle with. Then they will know how the trick works, as well as maybe even break the prop.

6) If something ever goes wrong during a trick, simply carry on as if nothing has happened. The audience will not become aware of the mistake, as they should not know what to expect anyway.

7) Never perform a trick that you cannot do perfectly.

8) Magic is fun, so enjoy yourself, and make sure that the audience enjoys themselves. Remember what I said in my foreword – be passionate and let your audience see this in you.

9) Never have an attitude of being better than others, just because you can do magic. This is the fastest way you will become unpopular. Always be friendly, sincere and polite.
