MULTI-SUPPLEMENT ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION TREAMENT STRATEGIES
The best and safest way to get your erections backs is through exercise, sleep, nitric oxide-boosting foods and other lifestyle modifications. What do we do in the meantime, though, as we implement these new changes into our life? It generally takes a few weeks or months to feel the effects of diet and exercise as they tend to provide gradual but steadily increasing improvement to one’s erectile strength. (Diet and exercise can have almost immediate effects in some cases, however.)
Sometimes, in spite of our best efforts, we need some “extra help” during the transition of implementing a new diet and exercise program. Furthermore, sometimes life hits us hard with stressors that require a little “extra help”. This is where multi-supplement cocktails can be very effective for many guys to help fill in this void.
The idea of combining multiple supplements in order to provide an extra boost to erectile strength all started with several studies using a combination of L-Arginine with various other herbal sexual stimulants. L-Arginine is the building block of nitric oxide, the chemical that Viagra and Cialis increase, and so researchers reasoned that if they combined L-Arginine with an actual nitric oxide booster that they would get additive or even multiplicative effects.
In 2002 scientists tried out this concept by giving either 6 g of L-Arginine daily or 6 mg of Yohimbine or both to men with erectile dysfunction. What they found was that yohimbine improved erectile dysfunction slightly but not enough for statistical significance. [11] However, when combined with the L-Arginine, erectile dysfunction was improved much more significantly. Unfortunately, the quantity of L-Arginine and yohimbine itself are of debatable long term safety.
For these reasons in 2003 separate researchers gave men with erectile dysfunction 1.7 g of L-Arginine and 40 mg of Pycnogenol twice daily. [12] Pynogenol has an excellent safety profile and 1.7 g of L-Arginine is a much safer dosage level. After three months of treatment, 92.5% of the men began to experience a normal erection again. These results showed just how powerful that synergistic supplementation could be. In other words, two ingredients combined improve erectile dysfunction significantly more than just one ingredient combined.
Another attraction in using an herbal blend to improve erectile strength is that, in general, the herbal supplements under investigation have a very low side effect profile and in some cases have even been used for centuries by various cultures as herbal sexual aides, aphrodisiacs and foods. This is in direct contrast with Cialis, Viagra and Levitra which have a slew of side effects and have no long term history. The problem with these PDE5 Inhibitor drugs, as they are called, is that they affect other similar enzymes and thus affect vision and hearing as well as the stomach. It is highly questionable that these pharmaceuticals can be used by most men without some kind of negative long term effects.
In contrast, we will discuss the safety profiles of all the supplements discussed in this eBook below so that you have some basic background and history on each. NOTE: Always check with your doctor first before taking any new supplements. Some supplements listed below can interact with certain medications. In addition, erectile dysfunction is very often a sign of underlying health conditions such as cardiovascular disease and low testosterone requiring medical diagnosis and treatment.
To give you an idea of just how successful combining several supplements can be, I have included the email from one reader who wrote in with an ultra-enthusiastic description. He had read through my web site, http://www.peaktestosterone.com, and combined a variety of the supplements that I had discussed to get him over "middle-aged erectile malaise." He was in his mid-40’s having mild erection problems but was very disturbed as this had never been an issue for him before. However, he had made an exciting discovery one night and wrote in with a description:
"I started the diet Tuesday and, man, I'm starting to feel a difference already. I also made a trip to the grocery last night and the [big-chain vitamin store]. I took one of each of the Horny Goat Weed, Maca, L-Arginine, Pycnogenol and Ginseng and man let me tell ya, there was a difference this morning when I woke up! I felt 16 again ! Lets just say that the wife now knows that it wasn't all in my head. 14 years together can sometimes make ya forget details. Ok enough of that but WOW!"
It's a little hard to miss the enthusiasm there, eh? Between nitric oxide-promoting foods and these supplements, it made a night and day difference for this guy. Later in his email, he asked about the fact that he had essentially thrown a slew of supplements together and taken them. "Is that a good idea? Or a waste of money?" In fact, he also wrote and asked, "Also, taking all the supplements together, is that what you recommend? It works."
To answer his questions, and again you should always check with your doctor first, I would start out by saying that in the case of the Ginseng, Horny Goat Weed and Maca, solid results were achieved with just one supplement. So one does not necessarily need to combine supplements to achieve good results and it may be overkill for some guys to use more than one. However, there are also reasons to combine them for an “extra boost,” which we will discuss below.
