Millions of web and content publishers just like you use Google AdSense to make money through internet advertising. Yet, while Google AdSense is a great way for many web publishers to monetize their content, far too many web and content publishers waste time with Google AdSense for one of two reasons: their website or content is wrong for Google AdSense, or they're not implementing Google AdSense effectively.
The purpose of this book is to make sure you don't waste time with Google AdSense. By reading this book, you will learn if your website or content is right for Google AdSense, and you will learn every phase of successfully implementing Google AdSense to maximize your advertising revenue. As a result, you will discover how to avoid wasting time with Google AdSense. What's more, you will possess the expert knowledge to achieve your revenue goals with Google AdSense.
So avoid the common pitfalls and start making money with Google AdSense.
Part 1: Make Sure Google AdSense is Right for You
Although many websites that attract visitors can benefit from Google AdSense, some websites are better than others at generating revenue with AdSense. A lot of people believe that as long as you get good traffic to your website, you can always make money with advertising. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. There are countless websites that achieve high traffic but fail to generate significant advertising revenue or product sales.
The best websites for Google AdSense are:
* Well trafficked
* Well designed for the user experience
* Highly targeted to specific categories, interests and keywords
* Raise user interest in products and services related to the website content.
First and foremost, the best websites for Google AdSense generate decent traffic. The more people coming to your site, the more ad impressions and clicks you will receive. So you’ll have to generate enough traffic to achieve your revenue target for impressions and clicks.
Secondly, the best websites for Google AdSense are well designed with the user experience in mind. Some websites manage to get high traffic despite very poor web design. That is a testament to the quality of their content; however, poor website design will likely destroy any chances of making ad revenue. Google ads don’t blend well with a poorly laid out website and are more likely to be ignored. So keep the user experience in mind and always adhere to sound principles of web design and search engine optimization, as explained in the sections below.
Thirdly, the best websites for Google AdSense contain content that is specifically targeted to a category of interest and uses keywords that stay relevant to that category. Keep in mind, Google AdSense does its best to place ads on your website that are relevant to your website’s content. The more your website content drifts to a variety of topics and uses keywords from all kinds of categories of interest, the more difficult it is for Google to match ads to your website content. And the less relevant your ads, the less users will click on your ads, and the less money you will make. So try if possible to maintain a consistent theme throughout your website and use consistent keywords.
Fourthly, the best websites for Google AdSense enlighten users to good information and make them eager to find out more about the products and services related to the content. This last point is the most commonly missed by publishers. You don’t want your visitors to simply come to your website, get the information they need, and leave. Sure, you want to get them good information so that they value your website. But your content must also leave them eager to discover more, which hopefully your Google ads will provide them. Naturally, this is dependent on the type of content your offer, and unfortunately some types of content, while perfectly legitimate and valuable, don’t lend themselves well to the products and services being offered in Google ads.
Still not sure if your website or content offerings are right for Google AdSense? The rest of this book explains in detail each of the points above to make sure you implement the best strategy for Google AdSense. But first, let's determine if you're eligible to use Google AdSense.
How to Become Eligible for Google AdSense
Your website is eligible to use Google AdSense as long as you meet certain minimal requirements and observe the Google terms of service. To be eligible:
* You need to own your own website or manage a blog through Blogger
* You need to be at least 18 years old
* Your site needs to be six months old in countries like India and China
* You need to submit a completed application.
The most important factor in being eligible to use Google AdSense is that you must own your own website and be able to edit the html code. Otherwise, you'll need to sign up for a free blog at Blogger, where you can run Google ads without having to know how to edit html code.
In addition, you must be 18 years old and submit a completed application to Google. It usually takes 2-3 days for approval, at which time you can log into your account, choose your settings, copy your code and paste your code into your website's html.
There are additional rules for operating websites outside of the United States. For example, customers in China and India must have owned a website for at least 6 months before using AdSense.
Otherwise, just make sure you adhere to Google's terms of service, which include rules for content and how you're permitted to lay out Google ads on your website.
Part 2: Enjoy the Benefits of Google AdSense

So in short, Google AdSense offers you a great deal of revenue opportunities in a convenient and no-cost advertising platform.
Make Money with Google AdSense
One of the challenges of running any website is figuring out how to monetize all your efforts. Maintaining a website can be costly and time-consuming. So unless your website is used purely to promote your brick-and-mortar business, you probably seek ways to earn money from the daily traffic you receive on your website.
Advertising is one of the most common ways to monetize a website. Since advertisers want to promote their goods wherever there is a sizeable audience, you can use your website traffic numbers to attract advertisers. The problem is, selling your own advertising is difficult and requires experience and contacts.
You can make money with Google AdSense by tapping into Google’s vast advertising network to get targeted ads placed on your website. Advertisers using Google’s display network either pay when their ads are shown or, more commonly, when their ads are clicked. Google then collects the revenue generated from advertising impressions and clicks and shares that revenue with you. And best of all, signing up and inserting ads is easy, and you incur no expenses in getting the ads placed on your website.
With Google AdSense, you can choose from a number of ad formats, including text ads, image ads, link units, video ads and gadget ads, all of which you can incorporate into your website and generate ad revenue when they are shown or clicked.
Maximize Your Revenue with Google AdSense
Naturally, you'd love to make a living from Google AdSense, and you'd like to know how much money you can expect to earn. Unfortunately, earning from Google AdSense can be very unpredictable. The amount of money you can make with Google AdSense depends on a number of factors:
* Your website traffic
* Your ad placements
* Your website layout
* How relevant the Google ads are to your content
* The type of content you provide.
No one can predict how much money you will make with Google AdSense. Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. But there are some key factors that universally impact how much money you can earn with Google AdSense.
First, your website traffic determines how much you can make with Google AdSense. Whatever your conversion ratio is of getting visitors to click on your ads, the more traffic you have, the more clicks you will get, and the more money you will make. So website promotion is critical to generating high traffic and maximizing advertising revenue.
Secondly, your ad placements are key in earning money with Google AdSense. Ad placements need to be prominent, such as above the fold or just to the right, left, or bottom of content. If your audience doesn't see your ads, you won't get clicks and you won't earn ad revenue. Keep in mind, though, you don't want to be overbearing with your ad placement so as to turn off your visitors.
Thirdly, your website layout impacts your AdSense revenue. Always keep the user experience in mind, laying out your content in a logical and attractive way. This includes choosing ad colors and fonts which mesh well with the other design elements on your page. An attractive, easy-to-use website is much more successful at converting ad clicks. More an ad layout later.
Fourthly, the more relevant Google ads are to your website, the more money you'll make with Google AdSense. Visitors are more likely to click on ads that are relevant to what they're searching for. So Google does its best to match ads with the content on your page. However, you need to do your part to help Google. By search engine optimizing your website, you ensure that Google will target ads to the most relevant keywords on your website.
Fifthly, the type of content you provide on your website will directly impact how much money you earn with Google AdSense. The fact is, some types of content are better for AdSense than others. General interest news, events and opinions, for example, generate a much lower ad click-through rate than more specific and targeted content, like Google AdSense advice. Content that centers on common keywords and entices visitors to learn more about related products and services is the best content for Google AdSense.
Get Your Fair Share with the Google AdSense Revenue Share
Advertisers pay Google to advertise in the Google display network, which includes any website like yours that subscribes to Google AdSense. Depending upon whether advertisers choose pay-per-impressions or pay-per-clicks, Google collects from advertisers when their Google ads are shown or clicked. Google then shares that advertising revenue with the website that displayed the ad. This is known as the Google AdSense revenue share.
The amount of revenue share Google AdSense provides depends upon the advertising format. AdSense for content, which includes all the Google ads on a standard webpage, earns publishers 68% of the amount Google collects from advertisers. AdSense for search, which includes all the Google ads in the search results within a publisher’s webpage, earns publishers 51% of the amount collected from advertisers. Google does not reveal the Google AdSense revenue share for other advertising formats.
Part 3: Set up Google AdSense Quickly and Easily
To start getting Google ads placed on your website or other content, you first need to sign up for Google AdSense by filling out an application for a free account. Once Google approves you, which usually takes 2-3 days, you can then sign in and choose which ad formats you'd like to add to your site and select ad placements if you wish.
If you run a blog at Blogger, or if you wish to sign up for a free Blogger account, you can sign up for Google AdSense immediately without having to submit an application or wait a week. Simply log into your Blogger account and choose to add AdSense under the "Monetize" tab of your editor control panel.
Choose How and Where You Want to Run Google Ads
When you sign up for a free account with Google AdSense, you can choose a number of different ad formats to incorporate into your website, including text ads, image ads, link units, video ads and gadget ads. You also have the option of integrating Google ads in many ways: on standard webpages, in search results, on mobile webpages, in feeds, over video content, on unused domains, and in mobile applications. In addition, you'll have many options for customizing the ads that run on your website, including layouts, fonts, and colors. You can also create channels, placements and alternate ads, which are all explained in detail below. To achieve all of this customization, you simply log into your account, choose your product, and then follow the guided setup.
Easily Add the Google AdSense Code to Your Website
Once you've finished customizing your ad preferences in Google AdSense, Google will generate html code that conforms to your preferences. You'll need to be able to add the Google AdSense code to your website html. This requires that you have a working knowledge of html. Google does not instruct you as to how to add the AdSense code to your website. Although instructions vary upon your html editor and your own preferences, generally you'll need to copy and paste the code exactly as it appears in your account, without making any changes or edits. You'll need to paste the ad code between the body tags of your html. If your page uses frames, you need to make sure the code is pasted into the frame that contains your page's main content.
If you're publishing a blog with Blogger, you can simply use the "Design" section of the control panel to lay out your AdSense gadgets and you won't have to worry about copying and pasting html code.
