Introduction

The use of appetizer’s go back many years. A lot of people think that appetizers and Hors d'oeuvre’s is the same thing, they are not. Hors d'oeuvre’s meaning is outside the meal while an appetizer is part of the meal. It is served at the beginning of the meal to help stimulate the appetite. What better way to stimulate the appetite than to start with cannabis infused appetizer. There are many good recipes in this book to do just that.

The Romans had many appetizers of all kinds, fish, pasta, sausage and much more. Appetizers are basically the start or beginning of a meal. Appetizers recipes vary around the world, with many different tastes for the palate. In this book we tried to capture some of the different types of tastes from around the world. You will find fish, shellfish, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican and many different types of recipes that will enhance your appetite. We are sure you will find one for a great start to any meal.

Russians since the early 1800’s served there appetizers buffet style. There would be at least one fish, salad or vegetable and one egg. We do not suggest that you would serve each one of these at the beginning of your meal with cannabis in it. Pick one to have the cannabis in and serve the others without. They would include horseradish, ground pepper and mustard to serve with the appetizers.

In recent years appetizers have become much more than just shrimp cocktail, chicken or cheese on a stick. You can turn almost anything into an appetizer. You would just adjust the portion size of what you want to serve. Chicken teriyaki sticks egg rolls and so on. Appetizers are only limited to your imagination.

Appetizers can be easy and fun to do. We know you will enjoy the recipes in this book. So sit back relax and have a good time with family and friends at your next dinner party.

Benefits Of Cooking Cannabis

We are all familiar with the cannabis plant; we are just now starting to understand the many purposes associated with the herbs use. It was not until recently that scientists began to admit that marijuana has a place in the medical community because of its healing properties. The Marijuana plant can be used to make clothing, food products, crafts, jewelry, handbags, personal care items, various fabrics, rope, guitar straps, yarn, sweaters, furniture, towels and much more. This herb has been debated as a treatment for various diseases. There are many health conditions in which marijuana looks like a treatment. For some of these conditions, smoking may be more suitable, if the effect needed is urgent, as smoking works almost instantly. For many others though, the effects of cooking cannabis can be more helpful. Here are just a few reasons why you might want to consider eating cannabis rather than smoking it. I would talk to your doctor before making a decision, as he or she will know the best treatment for you.

The most obvious benefit is that your lungs are not harmed. Achieving the effects of medical marijuana without smoking it is an option for people with asthma or conditions which make smoking unsuitable. Because you are not drawing smoke into your lungs there is no risk of harming your lungs. Marijuana is virtually non-toxic, so as long as the cannabis is cooked properly, there is very little impact on your body’s health.

Cooking marijuana for pain relief also has advantages over smoking. Although it may take up to an hour or even longer for marijuana edibles to take effect, it prolongs the effects for many hours longer than if you were to smoke cannabis. This is great for people using medical marijuana for arthritis. The medicated state from consuming cannabis can last up to 8 hours depending on the strain and how well you make your cannabutter or whatever method you are using.

Cannabis is prescribed to glaucoma for the eye pressure and to multiple sclerosis patients to stop or reduce muscle spasms. It is prescribed to cancer and aids patients to reduce nausea and stimulate appetite after chemotherapy. It has (marijuana) also effectively been used to treat epilepsy, depression and anxiety. However, there has been a lot of disapproval of cannabis as a medicine, with particular resistance to smoking as a method of use. People who are hesitant to smoke marijuana can receive the same or even greater health benefits by cooking with cannabis.

Why would you want to cook with weed? When you eat marijuana, the THC enters your blood stream through your digestive system. The active ingredients in marijuana, being fat soluble, can be extracted and added to foods entering the digestive system rather than the respiratory system. When eating, the harmful effects of smoking marijuana are eliminated. For this reason, ingestion is the favored method of marijuana use by some people. The effects of eating cannabis are said to be longer lasting than the effects of smoking, for this reason you would not want to sit and eat a whole pan of brownies. You could wake up a few days later wondering what happened. Cooking with cannabis goes way beyond your average brownie though we've got some great recipes for those too in our first book Calm Effects: The Beginning! In addition to providing an alternate route to enjoying the effects of marijuana, there are a number of health benefits of cooking with cannabis.

As of the writing of this book a company in Colorado is claiming that cannabis is killing the cancer cell. For this reason more studies should be done on cannabis to see what else it may help with. Researchers are now saying that it will help with aids patients. You have to remember 30 years ago there was no such thing as aids. With that in mind it is quite possible that cannabis could be the cure.

The best thing you can do is talk to your doctor and find out what is best for you. They will be able to give you the pros and cons of consuming marijuana. The recipes in this book are not meant to sit and eat all of the servings at one time. They are meant to eat with a few friends or used over a period of a few days. We know you will enjoy them. Things You Will Need

There will be a few things you will need to make the recipes in this book most of which you might already have.

Saute’ Pan

Whisk

French Press (optional)

Mixing Bowls

Baking Dishes

Sheet Pans

Electric Mixer

Blender

Double Boiler (optional)

Mixing Spoons

Deep Fryer (optional)

Skillet

You will not have to have all of the items listed here, but they will help. This cook book is meant to have two purposes. The first is to introduce cooking with cannabis can be fun and that a recipe is just a guideline to cooking. You do not have to follow the recipe exactly. With this type of cooking it is best to experiment with the recipe to get it the way you want it to taste. Take notes of the changes you make so you will know whether you like the change or not. When you start extracting the THC from the trim you will want to try different combinations to get the effect you are looking for. You can even use these recipes without using any cannabis at all, they are very good recipes to just make.

It is very important to remember that it takes a little while for the effects to take. It is not like smoking where the effects are right away; Consuming cannabis with food will take about an hour to come on and will usually last about 8 hours. So do not get impatient and eat too much. If it is your first time, eat your food in small amounts until you see what is going to happen. Sit back relax and enjoy your food. Marijuana is an illegal drug, so do not eat and drive. Find a safe place and have fun.

All of the serving sizes in this book are based on two pieces per serving. This is a very good dosage when we were testing the recipe. We do not in any way say this is correct for you. At first just try one piece until you are comfortable with the desired effects that you are looking for. If you are new to eating cannabis you do not want to overdo it your first time.

Calming Butter, Cream And Mayonnaise

This chapter will be the most important part of all the recipes in this book. You will want to experiment with the recipes and make them work for you. These are just guidelines to get you started in working with this type of cooking. Some people will like it stronger while others will not. So have fun with them and take care to make them the best you can and to have patience, you will not be disappointed. These recipes work very well just follow the procedures on each one of them. If you wish to make them more potent you will have to adjust the trim content for each one. The same goes if you wish to make the product weaker. Every recipe in this book revolves around these first these recipes. The cannabutter is the base for most of these recipes. You will want to take great care when making your butter. If you learn to make good butter, the rest of these recipes will come out very good. So you will want to learn how to make it very well. The better the trim the better your butter, the better your food will be. Butter will be the best for extracting the THC. The higher the fat contents the better extraction qualities it will have. Remember that fact when you begin to experiment with adding more or less trim to the product you are making.
