Be A Winner At Craps

SECTION ONE

Introduction

Almost everyone likes to play games. Most of us started as children, playing Monopoly or Yahtzee and as we became adults we may have switched our choice to poker, roulette, blackjack, or craps. In fact the popularity of craps is at an all time high.

Whether you play just for fun or you want to step it up a bit and play to make money in a casino there will be something in this book for you.

Craps is believed to have begun in England, perhaps as far back as the Middle Ages. French gamblers adapted the game into the version that we know today and later brought the game to New Orleans.

The original game was known to foster cheating by players using altered dice and there was a disadvantage to the casino by allowing players to bet either with or against the dice thrower. A “don’t pass” betting alternative was introduced to fix the betting problem and this option is still in use today.

Craps was a game that was popularly played as a street game in its original form, known as shooting dice, by rolling the dice against a backstop or curb, and sometimes playing without a backstop at all. Playing craps became popular during the World War II years among soldiers who played using whatever surface was available, often just an old blanket as the shooting surface.

Craps can be a fun game to play, but I caution you to remember that in a casino your play may not be just for fun. If you lose money playing craps, the casino keeps your money. You don’t want to find yourself in the position of trying to win back the grocery money or car payment, so always remember that casino craps players are generally skilled and you need to attain that skill to keep pace. Doubtless you are not yet skilled, so play accordingly, using only money that you have designated for gambling entertainment.

That being said, my opinion is that you have a better chance to win money playing craps than you do playing games like slot machines or roulette. When playing craps you get to use your own computer (your brain) to make choices that work for you such as:

Play conservatively.

Be aggressive.

Bet small amounts or bet your bank.

Pick your table.

Pick your dealers.

Play with strangers or play with friends.

Drink while gambling or sip only water (I recommend never drinking alcohol while gambling).

Choose which casino.

Set limits of losing or goals when winning.

Use your intuition or rely strictly on rules you have established for yourself.

And on and on.

When you play craps, you get to make the decisions that most affect your outcome, including what bets to make and how much money to bet. The only thing that you can’t affect is which numbers show up on the dice. But when playing craps you can be assured that the casino and the other players don’t know which numbers will be come up either.

So I believe your random odds are better when playing craps than they would be with a computerized slot machine, which may not be programmed fairly or loosely, or a roulette table which may or may not be mechanically sound.

Computer programmers set the win and lose patterns on electronic game machines, just as they do on slot machines, and winning requires you to be sitting at a particular machine when the computer program determines a winning pattern will appear. (And to be very opinionated, it is not wise to play online gambling games for money, whether cards, slots, roulette or whatever game because you have no way to insure the games are fair and honest. It is also illegal to play online gambling games for money in the U.S.)

Not so with live craps play, where winning patterns can appear again and again without software picking when or where.
