Ants Can’t Talk

By Houston C. Suit III

An ant,

Wow! What’s it doing at my table?

This ant, this ant,

Why not in the dirt or even near a rubber tree plant?

Going, going, going,

It’s going in circles,

Turning like a screw,

It’s funny, nothing but an ant,

Well and me,

Just us two.

Mounds of paper on this table he now goes through,

Is he looking for words to say?

Is it something or nothing for this ant to do?

It doesn’t get tired,

Up-down, up and down,

Around with his running and not making a sound.

I could squish it,

But no, it’s not in me,

To watch it wander I’ll watch and see,

Yes, just this ant,

Well, just this ant and me.

Back and forth,

Forth to back,

Seeming lost, even out of place on his circular like track.

This ant, this ant,

There’s no dirt at the table,

And certainly not a rubber tree plant.

So what is it Mr. Ant?

It’s just mounds of paper on this table,

Again, with all these words,

To talk you’re still unable?

So to be?

Yes, I’ll let him run a while,

This ant, this ant,

I’ll pick up and outside I’ll take to a dirt pile.

An ant to be,

And no where around can I see a rubber plant tree,

An ant, yes, I’ll let it be.

An ant.

The end
