Chapter One : Ghost Encounters

.And when there’s no more room in hell

The dead will walk the earth.

Taken from Dawn of the Dead.

Ghost Ships

Many ghost ships are said to sail our seas, here are ghostly tales from the deep.

The Flying Dutchman is perhaps the most famous of these legends. The Flying Dutchman is a cautionary tale to all ye sailors who think they are master of the seas. The Flying Dutchman’s captain, Hendrik Van Der Decken cursed God, when a storm broke out and his crew begged to turn for home. Suddenly God or a Angel of the Lord appeared in the sky above the ship. Decken would not bow to this form in the sky and even tried to shoot it with his pistol. The mysterious form then cursed captain Decken, his crew and his ship to sail the seas for all eternity and to bring death to everyone he met. Many people laugh at this tale and claim to be nothing but an old sea dogs story, however hundreds of sightings of this ship have been reported through the years, in March 1939 bathers at False bay, near Cape Cod saw the Flying Dutchman sailing across the sea, even thought there was no breeze that day, then it quickly disappeared. Prince George saw it while sailing in the navy, off the coast of Australia, shortly after a young sailor and Admiral on the ship died.

Ghost ships appear in every country’s mythology, A Dutch ship, the Palatine ran into trouble when it ran into a bad storm, the captain was killed leaving the crew leaderless, they robbed the ship of her cargo and fled in the life boats leaving the passengers on board to die. The ship drifted for days until it came to Block island. The people on the island plundered the ship and set fire to it, leaving one passenger on board to perish in the flames, the ship was again cast out to sea and disappeared. On the anniversary of these terrible events a ghost ship on fire is seen.

Last but not least it the famous ghost ship of all, The Mary Celeste. On the 5th of November 1872, Captain Benjamin Briggs, his wife and young daughter and a crew of 7 souls boarded The Mary Celeste and left New York harbour. A month later the crew of the vessel Dei Gratia spotted a ship on the horizon, for 2 hours Captain Morehouse watched The Mary Celeste, there was something about it not right. When a crew member of the Dei Gratia boarded The Mary Celeste there was no sign of any living soul. The whole ship was covered in water, but was still in working order, the ships compass was broken and the clock had stopped. There was still plenty of rations aboard the ship, however the only lifeboat was missing. The captain’s log was missing but the crews possessions were still on board. The people on board The Mary Celeste were never found, and we are no closer to the truth then we were in 1872.

Dealings with ghosts

Many of us still laugh when we hear someone say they have seen a ghost. However there are millions of reports of sightings of ghosts every year alone, perhaps we truly are not alone.

In 1681 James Graeme was walking home, late one evening. When suddenly a girl appeared in front of him, drenched in blood and had 5 wounds on her head. She told James that she had been murdered by a relative, the father to the baby she carried. She told him her name, Annie Walker and that he had killed her with a pickaxe. James refusing to believe what he was seeing tried to walk on, the ghost told him that if he didn’t go to the police and tell them what had happened, she would haunt him forever. James went home and tried to forget, but Annie appeared again, eventually he told the police everything, Annie had told James where her body was, and when it was searched, Annie Walker’s body was found. The police arrested the man responsible and James never saw Annie again.

London, 1930 was the place for a phantom bus haunting. Hundreds of drivers complained to the police of being forced off the road by a double Decker red bus. After one fatal accident , the local coroner learned that residents in the area had all seen this phantom bus. Eventually the bus stopped appearing. No one can explain why it came and why it suddenly vanished.

December 1972, Eastern Tri-Star jetliner, flight 401, crashed in Florida, claiming the lives of all on board, a total of 101 people. Afterwards other flights, especially planes that had been fitted with flight 401 parts, saw apparitions of flight 401’s pilot.

Bedfordshire, England, 1979. Roy Fulton was driving home, he stopped to pick up a male hitchhiker. The hitchhiker on being asked where he was heading, just pointed down the road. The pair drove in silence for a few miles, till Roy turned to offer his passenger a smoke, the passenger’s seat was empty. The hitchhiker had vanished from a moving car.

Chapter Two: Monsters

.Hell unleashed you for

A reason.

Taken from Van Helsing.

Loch Ness

There are many reports of a monster living in Loch Ness, Scotland.

Mr and Mrs Spicer were on holiday in Scotland, Loch Less. Suddenly out of nowhere came a long necked animal. The animal crossed the road right in front of the couple’s car. Amazed Mr Spicer sped up the car to get a better view, but by the time they had arrived at the spot, the animal was gone.

On a moonlit night, Arthur Grant was walking along the banks of Loch Ness. He saw a large blob ahead, as he got closer, the blob bounded across the road. In the moonlight Arthur saw a small head with round eyes and a long neck, and a big body. It looked about 18-20 feet long and had skin like a whale’s. Running after the creature Arthur heard a splash as the creature jumped into the loch.

Whether you believe in Loch Ness or not, it has fast become the worlds most famous monster, and who knows if the loch is protecting the worlds biggest secret.

July 1937, Naden Harbour, a whaling station was cutting up the body of a sperm whale, when inside the creature’s stomach, they found a dead carcase of an unidentifiable creature. The creature’s body was decomposing but they could still make out that it was 11-12 meters long, it had a large camel like head and a long neck with a serpentine body.

Chapter Three: The Supernatural

……Never say we die!

Quote from Pirates Of The Caribbean : At Worlds End.

Black Dogs- Hounds Of Hell?

Easter 1928 a student from Trinity College, Dublin, was fishing in a quiet river near his home, when suddenly he was a big black dog, paddling up the river towards him. The student a little bit scared, climbed up a nearby tree. The dog reached the bank and walked up to the tree, it stopped and looked up at him, baring it’s teeth. It’s eyes however were glowing red. The student stayed up the tree until the dog was out of sight.

There are many reports from all over the world about menacing big black dogs with glowing eyes, as well as in literature. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used it for one of his most popular Sherlock Holmes stories “The Hound Of The Baskervilles.”

Gloomy Sunday- The Song Of Death?

Gloomy Sunday was written in Paris in 1932. Reszo Seress, a Hungarian composer wrote after his girlfriend dumped him. He was sitting looking out his window at the rain when a haunting, sad tune just popped into his head. The song told the story of a man who was considering suicide after his lover had left him. Many publishers turned the song down, because of it’s very depressing, sad nature. Once the song was published it quickly became infamous for the number of people who committed suicide while listening to it.

Mothman- Devil or Angel?

Mothmen are supposed to be seen just before a tragedy occurs, but the question is, do they cause them to happen or do they try to warn us?

Point Pleasant, 1975, a normal quiet rural American town, 100 reports were made by residents claiming that they had seen a moth man. It would stay in the town for 13 months then suddenly depart.
