INTRODUCTION
To be a lawyer, you must first finish law school and then pass the Bar exam. To be a doctor, you must first finish medical school and then pass your medical boards. To be a C.P.A. you must first finish accounting school and then pass the state’s C.P.A. exam.
To be a business person, all you have to do is put out a sign that says “Open for Business:” there is no experience or education required. Too bad.
Your phone sex will be a business, just like General Electric or WalMart, but a lot smaller – and just like in those big corporations, good business practices must be followed, or you won’t be very profitable.
One of the purposes of this book is to try and give you some idea of the business principles involved. I haven’t gone into ‘phone-sex talking,’ because there are already plenty of books on that subject, and I’ll refer you to them in the Appendix of this book.
Please keep in mind that this book is not a how-to on establishing a large multi-line switchboard phone sex company: you can start one of those after you learn the ropes. Here, you will see how to get started small – like a ‘mom & pop home operation.’

Chapter 1
Get Online & Become a Credit Card Merchant
During this century if you’re not on the Internet you’re not in business. And you must be in business to operate the type of business that I am talking about in this book.
First of all, having an internet business is the easiest way to accept payment card payment, which will be your main means of income. Sure, there are other ways to collect from people – checks over the phone, PayPal, other types of debit companies, etc., etc., but credit cards are the best, quickest and safest ways to get your money deposited to a bank account… and you absolutely must do business with a credit-card processing company that will allow you to accept all four of the major credit cards out there (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express/Optima).
It only takes a minute or two to Google “Accept Credit Cards” and browse through a long list of companies that will set you up to accept payment by the cards. But – and it’s an important one – it would be best not to try and establish and account as a provider of adult services, like phone sex, so I would suggest that you follow the instructions in the chapter on selecting a business name, and use that .com to find a domain and get set up for business.
This is not meant in any way to suggest a misrepresentation to the credit card processing company, because my purpose in telling you about an ‘alternate’ type of business name and purpose is legitimate: you will be an internet merchandise of a real product, and that product will be sent to the client’s credit card billing address.
That’s right – you will be an actual online merchant with a real product – and your offering of adult conversation will only be another part of your business.
Of course, the ‘conversation’ part of your business will be the most profitable part, but that’s beside the point.
Once you’ve read the following chapter on the selection of a business name, you will understand the importance of the name: it will appear on the customer’s monthly billing statement, and if you fail to design a business that avoids credit card ‘charge-backs,’ you won’t be in business very long.
IMPORTANT: When setting up your business, filing for a dba, (Doing Business As), a fictitious name listing, opening a checking account and picking out a domain name, under no circumstances should you use your actual home address as a business location.
You never can tell what type of people will be calling for your services, and I would imagine that about 95% of them think that the pretty girls they see in your ads are actually pretty, and at your location.
Anyone with basic Internet skills can go to Whois.com or one of the other sites with a database, and check to see who filed for a domain name, and what the holder and technical contact’s name and address are.

It’s easy, and a lot safer, if you use normal security precautions when working in any adult-oriented business. There are UPS stores all over the country, plus numerous other private mail-drop establishments to use that will provide you with a mailing address.
Many businesses select mail-drop places that will allow you to use the box number as a ‘suite’ number on your mailings. You should check the local regulations to see if that is allowable.
The one thing you never want is one of your customers who has gone off the deep end and is now stalking your house, with the mistaken belief that the beautiful girl inside, who he was talking to, is really in love with him – and he’s there to rescue her.
In the minds of many callers, the girl they are talking to is a celebrity – and all you have to do is pick up one of the celebrity tabloids to find cases of celebrities being stalked by delusional fans.

Chapter 2
Selecting a Business Name
I Learned a valuable lesson from Magic Lamp Press the publisher of this book.
As the story goes, quite a few years ago they started up their business by selling books directly off one of the internet’s first websites. That was way before Jeff Bezos started up the small book-selling company Amazon.com – a firm that almost everyone believed was destined to fail.
Back in those days you either acquired large bookstore sales through a distributor or started out small with direct sales.
Not being a big New York established publishing house, Magic Lamp had to settle for the ‘smaller’ plan, so they kept books in stock, took & processed the orders, and shipped out the books by UPS.
Their payments were all received by the acceptance of credit cards, and on the book purchasers’ monthly statements, the name ‘MAGIC LAMP’ would appear, along with the date of the charge, Magic Lamp’s telephone number, and the amount.
Unfortunately, there are many suspicious wives out there, and part of their monthly routine includes a detailed inspection of the family’s telephone bill and credit card statement. These are not normal women – they are CSI-qualified investigators, who are capable of detecting a female hair, the scent of another woman’s perfume, or any other scintilla of evidence that could possibly be interpreted as posing a threat to the male property they desperately want to hang onto.
To many of these females, the appearance of a charge from a company named Magic Lamp was immediately believed to have been for some sex-related service, and because Magic Lamp’s telephone number also appeared on the statement, their offices would receive several calls each month from what sounded like enraged females, wanting to know “what service did you provide for this charge?”
Back in those days, Magic Lamp Press only sold instructional books on boating, sailing, and celestial navigation, so it was an easy matter to clear up. All one had to do was ask the woman what type of boat her husband owned, and then tell her to please visit their website to see the boating books available there – one of which was no doubt ordered by her husband.
That usually took care of the matter, and in most cases the caller meekly apologized, admitting that ‘yes, a boating book did in fact get delivered to the house during that month.’
Perhaps now you can see how important it is to select the proper business name, and to establish a presence on the internet: not only for the purpose of becoming an internet credit card merchant, but to also have a legitimate non-adult product busi-ness that can ship items to the client’s billing address and therefore succeed in defeating any charge protests sent in by an embarrassed husband, trying to save face by claiming that a credit card charge to an ‘adult’ business “must be a mistake, because he would never do a thing like that.”
It’s a lot easier to get approved by a credit card processor if your internet presence is a ‘.com,’ instead of .net, .org, or one of the many other top-level domain designations.
All the good names are already taken, but that’s okay, because you don’t need one of them – you’re not going to rely on people finding your website – it’s only in use for the purpose of referring people who ask about it, to appear ‘non-adult,’ to actually have a product to ship, to establish a real commercial internet presence and to avoid charge-backs and/or charge protests.
An acquaintance of mine went to a local 99¢ Store, found a bunch of sports DVDs on the rack, bought a couple dozen of them and then took out a domain name that I believe could was something like www.sportseducationdvds.com. Whenever he ran low on product, he went back to the store and replenished his supply.
The DVDs were sent out by UPS for an average shipping cost of about four dollars, and with a copy of the UPS shipping receipt; he didn’t suffer one loss as a result of any complaining customer. It was pretty cut and dry: a customer called in and bought a DVD. It was subsequently shipped to his billing address. Any conver-sation that may have also taken place between him and the female DVD order-taker was completely irrelevant.
