Dr. Breftin:

I am the pastor of a rather large church in the metroplex that has a bit of a quandary. It seems that some of my congregation has gotten it into their head that our church is haunted. I personally would not have chosen to avail you of your services. However, the Official Board has decided that, in order to prove that these are simply old wives’ tales, the church should enlist the help of a phenomenologist.

Before we actually hire you, we would like to know what services you actually provide and how much those services will cost us. It would be greatly appreciated if you replied in a timely manner.

In Christ,

Pastor Gimmel

Pastor Gimmel:

A haunted church? This has to be a first. I will not charge you anything. I find it rather ironic that a man of the cloth would seek out a medium such as myself to absolve himself of this problem. Isn’t there a story in the Old Testament about that? I’m sure god is going to have a kick over this one.

Down to business. Like I said, it will be free. What I need from you are the different stories that are going around the church. I can’t catch the ghost without knowing its favorite places to haunt. Send them one at a time so that I can focus completely on each one.

Thank you,

Dr. Breftin

Dr. Breftin:

I am sure that the Board will appreciate your generosity. They are still unclear about what your services actually entail, but they are willing to forgo those particular formalities due to your generous offer. A haunted church is indeed ironic. It is for that reason that I actually don’t believe that it is haunted. These cannot be more than old wives’ tales. Keep in mind that our church is about ninety years old. That only serves to give more “credence” to the stories.
