Knee-length socks and tweedy slacks,

Bracing walks on leafy tracks,

Woolly jumpers warm and snug,

Homemade soup served in a mug,

Fruity cake and apple pies,

Baggy skirts to hide the thighs,

Stews and hotpots, wellie-boots,

Blackbirds squabble over fruits,

Time to knit a bobble hat,

Muddy dog prints on the mat,

Heaps of leaf mould rotting down,

Umpteen shades of red and brown,

Clothes hung out to dry in gales,

Christmas shopping at the sales;

Taste or texture, scent or hue -

What does autumn mean to you?
