Mr.
Ox Goes for a Walk
One morning, Ox went for a morning walk. He was hungry and wanted something to eat. He walked near a fruit tree.
“I will pick a few pieces of fruit from that there tree. And eat a few pieces on my morning walk.”
Away he went through the city eating fruit.
For a time, Mr. Ox did not see so much as the end of a rabbit’s tail. Then, at a turn of the road, whom should he meet but Mrs. Drex. Mrs. Drex was a baker, with her very own bakery.
“Mrs. Drex, why aren’t you at the bakery?” Mr. Ox asked Mrs. Drex.
“Oh dear, I am going to the supermarket to get some baking flour.”
“This is a fine day for a walk,” said Mr. Ox.
Mrs. Drex smiled and showed every one of her teeth.
“Oh, it is a fine day,” said Mrs. Drex.
“But it is almost too warm for a long walk,” said Mr. Ox.
“Yes,” said Mrs. Drex, “and it may grow warmer later in the day.”
“I am only going to the supermarket,” said Mrs. Drex.
“Where are you going Mr. Ox?” Mrs. Drex asked.
“I am on a morning walk.”
“And where did you get your fruit from?” Asked Mrs. Drex.
“You may want to use some of the fruit to bake a pie. Walk with me and I will show you where I got the fruit from,” said Mr. Ox.
Off they went side by side.
Then Mr. Ox went on and on in front of Mrs. Drex. Every several minutes he turned to look back and Mrs. Drex was keeping near him.
