About the Author
Affirm Yourself
His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most
intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself.
Ephesians 4:30
Unique
You are unique. Do you know how great of a blessing it
is that you are simply cut from your own mold? I know
that the Bible states that there is nothing new under the
sun which insinuates that everything you see has
already happened before but there is no one on the
earth like you. No one has ever seen nor will they ever
see a duplicate of your essence, your greatness, your
smile, or even your character. Now I cannot give you the
perfect formula for success, but I can give you the
formula for failure which is trying to please everybody.
So there is no reason to try to fit yourself into someone
else’s idea of you. God made you and said that “it was
good” so give life your uniqueness and know that
everything you are is all you need to succeed.
Self Image
I want to encourage you on this day to look your best
everywhere you go. A lot of times you get into the habit
of being complacent with just being comfortable. Well
actually that is not a bad thing if you do not lose your
image as you sink into your comfort zone. Everywhere
you go look your best! Did you know that getting into the
rut of being sloppy in your appearance can drag you
down and add to your stress? It absolutely can because
subconsciously you have negative energy pulling at your
self-image. If I find myself sinking into a negative mood,
I take a moment to take a hot bubble bath, style my hair,
and put on my make-up. I will throw on a great outfit that
fits my attitude and that exude the grace on my life. It
simply makes me feel better not when people like what
they see when they see me but when I like what I see in
the mirror.
Weight Endure
For the ones who are becoming more health conscious
and have set goals of losing weight and have committed
to a healthy lifestyle, I want to offer some
encouragement to you. Incorporating a new lifestyle of
eating right and exercising takes time to do. So many of
you start off on the right track and when you work so
hard in the beginning and do not see the results you
desire, instantaneously you give up. Here are a couple
of points I want you to consider. You did not put the
weight on in a month or two, so allow yourself time to
get it off. Make a commitment to yourself that you will no
longer allow eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle to
control you. PACE yourself. If you cannot get in the gym
four times a week, go once a week and make that time a
week your goal. Consistency is the key! Remember that
the race is not given to the swift or to the strong but to
the one that endures to the end.
What's in a Name
Do you realize that there is so much potential in just
your name? Your name carries the power of your
character. It is totally up to you how you would like your
name to be respected and honored. The name Jezebel
actually means pure virgin, but because of the character
of the woman who carried the name in the Old
Testament scripture from that day to this day, no one
would dare to name their daughters Jezebel. How is
your name holding up in your family, among friends, in
the courts, when someone mentions your name? What
do they remember about you? The way to gain a good
reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to
appear.
Progress
Whether you have been managing a project that have
not quite done what you thought it would or if you are
nurturing your children in building their morals and
values and they do not quite seem to understand or
listen, things do not always go as planned. Even if you
have been continuing to pour into and pray through a
relationship that you truly believe in, it still does not
seem that you are getting back what you have put in. I
would like to give you a boost in your endeavors that will
perhaps push you further to the end that you have been
expecting and that is thanking God for progress. Things
may not be as you desire them to be right now but be
grateful for better. Are you excited that at least you are
making progress? Progress is to be celebrated because
true progress quietly yet persistently moves you forward
without notice.
Joy
What makes you joyful? Is your joy predicated on the
way you have been treated, on the way someone looks
at you, on the amount of money in your pocket or on
who is giving you attention? This kind of joy is not the
kind of Joy you need to have inherited in Christ. If you
think this is joy you have not really experienced real joy.
I would like to encourage you to go on a quest in Christ
for REAL joy. The kind of joy that no matter what your
life looks like, no matter who rejects you, no matter what
you do not have, no matter where you are financially,
this joy remains. You may have searched here or there
in relationships or in careers for this kind of joy and
found that it can only be given in the depth of a
relationship with our risen saviour Jesus Christ. In His
presence there is fullness of joy and this is where you
can find it. For this joy, the world cannot giveth,
therefore the world cannot take it away.
Consistency
One of the "behind the scenes" principles tapped by
successful people is their ability to persevere and keep
being productive in spite of circumstances. Consistent
achievement leads to desired consequences. It is the
ability to apply oneself to tasks that lead to the fulfillment
of a goal. Consistency is the opposite of working only
when one feels inspired. Consistency means time is
spent with a focus in mind. An achiever has something
to show for his time while his counterpart does not. A
great writer once said that "some people go through life
getting results, others get consequences." In other
words, if you are not focused, your energy is dissipated
and your consequences occur by default. Power is not
too strong of a word to describe the desired results of
using consistency. Think of this form of power as being
dynamic, unfolding, unseen, but real. Tap into the
principle and enjoy the benefits.
Take a Break
You work hard, pray hard, been faithful in your
relationships and you give life all you have. You deserve
a break! Look at your schedule on a monthly basis. How
many times have you had some ‘you’ time? Time just for
you to do whatever you want, go where you want, eat as
much as you want, and just relax and be you. Well you
deserve it whether it is going out tonight with your
friends to catch a great movie or taking a stroll in the
park. Your life deserves a break. If you see some shoes
or a nice shirt that you like, get them! And if you desire
to take a short trip out of your reality, do whatever it
takes to relax yourself. Make it a point to do it and have
FUN doing it. Everything in your life will flourish once
you have taken a moment in the sun.
Your Purpose
So many of you are unsure of your purpose. You really
do not understand why you are here. You have survived
many obstacles and tragedies in your life and you ask
why and find yourself locked up in life because you have
not grasped your purpose. Have you been asking
yourself what is your purpose and not able to answer?
Well let me tell you that your pastor cannot tell you what
your purpose is either. The purpose of a thing only lies
in the mind of the creator of that thing. The creator of a
Porsche is the only one that can tell you why he created
that car. The creator of a song is the only person to tell
you why she wrote it. And only God can tell you why He
was inspired to send you to this earth at that moment in
time. Your purpose must be found and embraced only in
a real relationship with God your creator.
What are You Made Of
You often complain of your circumstances and a lot of
times you are looking for help reaching out your hands
to someone that would be able to get you out of the fire.
I want to submit to you that it is better for you to stay in
the fire so that your character can be defined. The only
way that gold can become pure is that it has to be tested
by fire. Many people have no strength to endure hard
times, no patience to reveal their inner strength, and no
morals to uphold the character of their name. As a
result, too many of you have no substance beyond your
beauty. I want to encourage you to stay in the fight,
endure the test and do not look for handouts because
these are the times that virtue is imparted into our lives.
Through your tests and trials your character is
developed and your name establishes its value. I love
this quote by Maya Angelou and it says: ‘A bird does not
sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a
song’.
Break Away and Regroup
When was the last time you took some time to get
organized and focused? It takes effort to really get in a
place to identify those things in life that you are attached
to that you need to break away from. Rethink all of the
things that you are doing and prioritize those things that
need your full attention in this season. You could be
doing a great work and a great thing in the wrong
season and the only way to find out is to reevaluate you.
I encourage you to pull away from everyone, go enjoy a
weekend in the mountains or at the beach, or get a nice
change in scenery and regroup as the season of harvest
is approaching. You deserve the right not to be stressed
through it but to savor every moment the harvest has to
offer you.
Groom Yourself
Everyone knows the saying ‘first impressions last’. You
see or hear these words as a catch phrase on TV or
radio commercials or in some book or magazine you
read. Your mothers and girl friends advise you about
making a good impression, whether it is heading for a
