Materials:

Headband:154 yards yards/140 m WORSTED WEIGHT weight yarn (used here: CASCADE 220) THE ENTIRE HEADBAND IS KNITTED WITH 2 STRANDS HELD TOGETHER!! Both flowers (crochet or knitted version) use only one strand!

Knitting needles size US 9 (5.5 mm) or size to achieve gauge, tapestry needle,

2 bigger buttons (1” in diameter), decorative button for center of crochet flower and materials to sew on buttons

- Yarn Requirements for crochet flower: 40m/44 yards, crochet hook size G/6 (4.0 mm)

- Yarn Requirements for knitted flower 30m/33 yards, knitting needle size US 7/4.5 mm

Gauge: with 2 strands held together!

14 sts/22 rows = 4”/4” in Stockinette Stitch (= *knit one row, purl one row. Repeat from *)

This is a very tightly knitted gauge. Make sure your gauge is the same! Go down in needle size if your gauge is bigger.

Measurements: 6”/21 ½“ (loop for closure not included)

You can watch me doing the lifted increase here on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giBGVWGCwQ0

Skills:

LC = backward loop = increase

Lifted Increase (Li) = with left hand needle pick up the purl stitch on the back side under the just knitted stitch and then knit into the lifted stitch.

Tip: the very first knit stitch of every row should be made really tight for a nice edge. If you have trouble getting it tight you can also slip the first stitch purlwise with yarn in front instead.

Abbreviations:

BO = Bind off

CO = Cast on

k = knit

kfb = knit in front and back of the same stitch

LC = Loop cast on

p = purl

tog = together

st(s) = stitch(es)

k2tog = knit 2 sts tog

p2tog = purl 2 sts tog

Li = Lifted Increase

Technical Notes For Crochet:

ch = chain stitch: wrap the yarn over the hook. Draw the yarn through to form a new loop.

slst = slip stitch: insert the hook into the work. Wrap the yarn over the hook, draw the yarn through the work and the loop on the hook in one movement. That is one slip stitch completed
