Fact 1: Bamboo is a type of grass, not a type of tree.

A lot of people think that bamboo is a tree because it grows so tall. It also has a trunk with leaves and branches sprouting from it.

Bamboo is not a tree, it is a grass. Scientists have found that it has much more in common with the lawn in front of your house than it does with any trees growing in the forest.

Even so, many people refer to bamboo plants as trees and say they grow in a forest.

(Augapfel)

Fact 2: The plural of bamboo is bamboo.

Bamboo is one of a few words in the English language that is the same in both singular and plural. If you want to designate that there are a lot of bamboo plants in one area you can say a “bamboo forest”.

Other words that are the same in both singular and plural form include deer, sheep and moose, among others.

Fact 3: Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth.

Bamboo plants can grow very quickly. In fact, a few species can grow up to four feet (1.2 meters) in a single day! That’s the height of a normal seven or eight year old!
