The Life of a Paperboy Volume 1
INTRO
This is the first book in what I am hoping will be a decent sized series, a lot goes on in a year of doing a paper round, and each volume will include events that have happened since the last volume, however I cannot tell how many volumes there will be, as I am approaching the age where I can get a PROPER part-time job...
Chapter 1 - Getting a Round
Just over a year ago now, I was at the age where a kid wants to start earning money, I wanted to buy nice clothes, I wanted a laptop, new headphones etc. but I had no money at all, well I had my pocket money, but the things I wanted required much more. Two of my friends had paper rounds, which gave me the idea of getting one. The problem was, there were no rounds available in my area, I kept looking in the local papers, but the only vacancies were only in driving distance, which would just be inconvenient. I put my name on the lists of the local newspaper distributors knowing that chances are I would be in for a long wait as there were plenty of other names on the list. But one day, my friend, after having his Wednesday round for less than 2 months, decided he couldn't be bothered to carry on, and so gave the round to me. I was thrilled. That didn't last long...
After going out on the round for the first time, I discovered it was hard work, and it took me 2hours, for £5 a week it was pathetically crap. When I then found out that my friends were getting 3times as much money per hour as me, I felt it even worse. The reason the pay on my round was so rubbish was that you get paid per paper, my round had not very many papers to deliver, but it was down a road where each house is about 10metres apart, and they all have 20metre drives, I sent multiple requests asking for my round and pay to be reviewed, but they kept being turned down.
After about 8 months I received a phone call from another newspaper distributor saying that a round had freed up in my area and would I be interested. More money? Yes please, so then I had 2 weekly paper rounds, this latest addition was 100 more papers than my other round, but it paid double! And all the houses were very close together meaning it only took 30mins longer than my other one, this one was to be done on a Friday night.
