What is a Raccoon?
A raccoon is an animal that looks like a little masked bear. They are furry and hairy, and have whiskers like a cat.

Raccoons are covered in thick fur. It is mostly a grayish brown but there are patches of white and black. Most raccoons have a black stripe across their eyes. It makes them look like they are wearing a mask.
A raccoon’s tail is also covered in fur. The tail often has black and white stripes around it.
Raccoons have hands that look like little human hands. Each hand has five fingers. At the end of each finger is a claw. When they walk, raccoons leave footprints that look like little baby hands.
They can pick up things with their hands. Their hands are also very sensitive. That means they feel a lot.
Their hands work just like ours do. In fact, raccoons can even open doors! They just stand on their hind legs, reach up, and turn the knob!
People who live near the edge of the woods need to make sure they keep their doors locked all the time! Otherwise a raccoon might just wander in and see what you have to eat!
