Achieving the 315 lbs. Bench Press
Lanny Donnell
One of the greatest milestones to weight training is the accomplishment of bench pressing 315lbs. Or 3 plates-or caddy’s as I hear a lot of the younger generation refer to the big iron 45lbs plates. And just the thought of loading 6 of these big boys on to the barbell and pressing it off your chest, can change the status of how you are looked upon in your gym. So, what stands between you and this level of satisfaction? If you’re thinking to yourself that strength is the only determining factor, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that’s not all that it takes. The first level of lifting 315lbs is physiological! It’s like the equivalent of imagining challenging the school yard bully. Before taking them on they look twice as big and extremely scary.
