Enemies are everywhere
Assessment
They work in the same office as you, worship with you, and live on the same street. They could even be your neighbours, friends and course mates. You even drink, eat and dance with these folks. You almost do everything with them, in fact, yet you cannot identify them with your “naked eyes”. You must function as a spirit man, operate as the only man who is set to rule this world, be on the alert at every single moment, know and understand that your steps are watched and monitored every second; your speeches and casual talks are always being analysed without your knowledge. Yes, this is a reality that you need to be watchful about. Be a lion and devour people when necessary but always be elegant and jagged in your moves, focused, tough, and calm in your spirit man. Be able to pinpoint every move made by your fellows. Get inside them without their knowledge but in order to achieve this, you must be their friend either in pretence or in truth. No man tells you his secrets unless he regards you as a friend. But you must keep your hands pristine, your mouth diminutive, your actions guarded.
Though their “darts” are coming on a daily basis, you know who is responsible. Pretend and proceed as a pal but remember the principle of spirited action oriented so as to configure your steps towards conquering them and their world at large.
Be able to know when true friends are deviating from your style and interest in life. Every group that follows the same path has a similar itinerary and dreams. Nothing brings people together without similarities either in character or pursuits of vision. With all this you may now wonder how friends can be identified. A friend is someone who can die for you without any benefit. But is this possible in this present scheme of things? Anyway, your friend should be able to dream alike with you, tolerate you maximally and your natural flows should be similar to his or her’s.
Now, what do we do? having seen that we are in a world which requires enemies more than friends. How and what should we do? Our enemies have become 65% determinant of our achievements. How?
The following tips will give us a clue of what it looks like:
1) They push us to the wall and bring the real man out from us.
2) They make us think fast by constituting circumstances that make us lose our positions and placements.
3) Betrayal which comes from them afterwards makes us to buckle up in order not to experience the same setback the second time.
4) We think twice immediately we face disappointments from them, while we should have anticipated so.
5) Our steps become faster when we discover how we have been drawn back by them.
6) Reactivation of our minds become phenomenal when we comprehend that they are contending and looking for a way to “bite” us off the track.
7) They make us mature quickly, instead of trusting every one like a kid, only the “young trust and the old will always test”- Mike Murdock.
8) Knowledge of the existence of these enemies keeps us awake and vigilant, thereby making us become security conscious.
But you see, you rule your world when all these are in place. Mastermind has learnt how to walk through the enemies without being trapped. Greatness demands the knowledge and wisdom to rule in the midst of your enemies. Enemies will always be everywhere around you but you only need to rule your world. Though our arch enemy is Satan, and we must understand this, he uses humans and not devils always.
Watch with your “naked” eyes BECAUSE THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!
When we claim to be friends, do we really mean it? We simply get attracted by fame, money, opportunity, power or favour. Yet, we tolerate and absorb each other in pretence by hiding all our feelings and points of view. But the truth remains that man is an individual being and there is nothing like BEST FRIEND.
Assessment
Your closest friend should be your greatest "suspect" in life. In as much as the flow of friendship is there, the checkmating should be there as well. Fear him in concealment but you see, this should be done with a high sense of intellectual maturity. "A friend can make you and a friend can destroy you". But there is nothing like best friend. Life of friendship has taken many to the underworld. It has made a good number of people remain under for ever which they never bargained for, yet others to the top. I want to believe that you should not think of going up there along with someone. Think about your interest first then whoever desires to follow can come along. There should always be an element of interest and desire before you proceed with your help or else you will get the “sideback” as your reward. Open your heart a little but your eyes fully opened and I tell you this, life even demands more than this act. Getting there is not by chance and you should also not think that it is by nonchalant attitude. You have got a job to do for this to work for you. Folks would always want to follow when they see elements of success in your pursuits yet it looks as if we cannot do without them, no one is an island and no one can do it all alone. Yes! You need someone to assist but with this principle in mind.
In the book captioned, “Fellow Countrymen” The author reveals quite some related true stories of what happened in the Nigerian setting that has to do with this in your hands. “General Ibrahim Babangida took over power on 27th August 1985, through a coup d’tat, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He had a close friend, General Mamman Vatsa whom he appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria (1985). They were not friends unaccompanied but “a friend in need and in deed”. People described their relationship as a very close one. Not only were they very close friends but also, were classmates in School. It even went beyond that. General Vatsa played the role of bestman at General Ibrahim Babangida’s wedding .Perhaps, you wouldn’t understand. A friend of mine once said, “The only reward General Ibrahim Babangida felt he could give to General Mamman Vatsa, who had been his friend for years was the office of the Minister for Federal Capital Territory, when he became Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Close to four months after Babangida’s administration took off; the government on December 22, 1985, announced that it had uncovered plans by some officers to topple the government. On the list of the military officers involved was the Minister for The Federal Capital territory, General Mamman Vatsa!!!
After the arrest of Vatsa and co., comments from Babangida’s boys were forthcoming. And the most profound was that of Major Abdulmumini Aminu, the then Governor of Borno State… This same great soldier was involved in the coup that overthrew Shagari and Buhari. In fact, he was one of the people that arrested Shagari and Buhari.
A military tribunal was set up by the government to try Vatsa and other plotters. Presided over by Major General Madioma, Vatsa and 14 other officers were sentenced to death by firing squad. The sentences were approved by Armed Forces Ruling Council (AFRC). Some others were redeemed to life imprisonment by the same AFRC. While Wing Commander J.B Uku had his death sentence reduced to five years imprisonment, the remaining ten were induced and executed by firing squad on Wednesday, March 5, 1986. A day to their execution, literary Legends Prof. Wole Soyinka ,Professor J.P. Clark and Prof. Chinua Achebe visited Dodan Barracks to plead with the Head of State, General Babangida, to spare their lives, but the plea was turned down.
Within the period of the tribunal’s sitting, the tribunal acknowledged that there were some developments, alleged to be confessional statements from the detainees. On the attempted coup, it was alleged that two meetings were held at Lagos and Makurdi. In continuation of the alleged plan, the suspected coup plotters had planned to bomb the long Eko Bridge in Lagos and Dodan Barracks, the Government’s Headquarters with cluster bombs through MIG 21 and Alfa Jets. One was to be led and flown by Squadron Leader Marthin Luther. In an evidential counter, Marthin Luther said it was impossible for MIG 21 and Alfa Jets to take off from Makurdi, bomb Lagos and return to base. Again roles anticipated by the government to have been played by General Vatsa as the leader of the group was completely shrouded in mystifying secrets. However Vatsa’s family cried out aloud consistently for his innocence. Meanwhile, on the other hand, critics said that "the General (Babagida) was most uncomfortable with the intellectual profiles, fame and wealth of Vatsa. The Government, in an attempt to make their decision sound rational to the public on the alleged plan drop bombs in Lagos, brought about skeptic feelings among the people.
General Domkat Bali, was instructed by General Babangida to make it known to the public by announcing the execution in March 1986. In the interview granted to TSM Magazine, Edition of July 14, 1991, there were elements and lack of uncertainty to his answers. He was not definite in his answers according to the TSM reporter.
After the interview session between General Bali and TSM he later confirmed the death of Gen Vatsa.
TSM: Now, please confirm authoritatively where they killed them or was it a dummy being sold?
Bali: Certainly, Vatsa was, that I can confirm to you for sure.
In Vatsa’s allegation plea, it was noted that this intelligent military officers plea was quite sympathetic “It is an irony of fate that the leader of the tribunal, who in 1964 felt that I was good enough to take a training in UK, is now saddled with the duty of showing me the exit from the force and the world”.
In his allegation plea again, that sounded more like a poetic version laced with occasional jokes like when he corrected the tribunal chairman who listed part of his hobbies as "pornography", Vatsa quickly intercepted him by saying " it is photography”. Vatsa, who preferred to defend himself at the Tribunal, incidentally was one of the tribunal members that tried Dimka and others in 1976, can you hear that "What comes around goes around."
"I give these tribunal members a specific speech of my C.V. I do not intend to waste more time in this address of mitigation but only to refer the tribunal to note that submission now that you have come to your decision. What else do I say other than appeal to this honourable tribunal that imposing your sentence on me, you may bear in mind that I served this country for over 24 years as a military officer. During this period, I performed my duties with dedication, vigour and determination. I have always been loyal to my supervisors and subordinates. I have in my humble way contributed to the upliftment of the image of our armed forces and the Nigerian Army in particular. By the way, I hereby present that in the past two years, from 31st December 1983 up to date; I have participated in the running of government. I have been a full time soldier all my military life. This is the path of honour I have chosen for myself. I would request the honourable tribunal to also note that I have never nursed any grudges against anyone. I have tried always to be frank with my colleagues. It’s my way. It’s the way of our training. You have made your decision that I am guilty. I can’t question your right to say so as a tribunal.
