Chapter 1 - Introduction

Humans being the most intelligent species and having lived on Earth for thousands of years, we are yet nowhere near to a life of peace, love, joy and harmony. This book contains a hypothetical story of a young man, Tom, who had a fifth conversation with Guru Harry. This is a continuation of their first four conversations which are contained in the books “Wisdom on How to Live Life”, “Wisdom on How to Live Life (Book 2)”, and “Wisdom on How to Live Life (Book 3)”. Guru Harry epitomizes someone from a spiritual society who offers a way of living which can lead to peace, love, joy and harmony.

In this fifth conversation, Guru Harry expounded his spiritual wisdom on:

(1) why we should not disrespect those who are at a lower level of development,

(2) why we cannot hear things spiritually,

(3) why people do not want to evolve spiritually,

(4) why it is not egotistic to say you are good,

(5) why we should not be attached to the pleasures of bodily senses,

(6) what are the problems with the pleasures of worldly objects and bodily senses,

(7) what is the pleasure that everybody can afford to enjoy,

(8) what is the purpose of meditation and how to meditate,

(9) what is one great benefit of the pleasure of the soul,

(10) what is the catch in evolving spiritually,

(11) how to practice “To be in the world but not of it”,

(12) how to happily lose many worldly things,

(13) how do masters live,

(14) what are Guru Harry’s qualifications that entitle him to talk about life,

(15) why political leaders are not humane,

(16) why people with human bodies do not make them humans,

(17) how to become humans,

(18) who can become a master,

(19) what are the differences between religion and spirituality,

(20) why some people choose to lose their souls,

(21) why it is important to get the right understanding,

(22) why life should not be just about making a living,

(23) how to start living,

(24) why people are obsessed with making a living,

(25) what are the four aspects of life,

(26) how does a good society look like,

(27) how do masters live in equanimity all the time,

(28) what is the real purpose of going to school,

(29) what is the real purpose of going to work,

(30) what is the real purpose of going to a religious faith,

(31) how to be happy in school, work and religious faith,

(32) what is the fundamental difference between the reward offered by religion and those offered by school and work,

(33) why societies set up all kinds of reward systems,

(34) how to create a heavenly society,

(35) why we should pay a spiritual worker higher than a worldly worker,

(36) why we should pay people for doing spiritual work,

(37) why a spiritual reward is better than a materialistic reward, and

(38) how to become a master of life.

Through this fifth conversation, young Tom is even more prepared and wiser on how to live his life.

Chapter 2 - Fifth Conversation with Guru Harry (Part 1)

Hello Guru Harry, it’s been quite awhile since I last talked to you, now I’m back.

Hello Tom, welcome back. Actually, I’ve been communicating with you all the while.

You have?

Yes, you know we are always connected.

You mean like one air covering the entire Earth.

Like there is only one of us.

We are all one.

Exactly.

But I didn’t hear you.

No, I know you didn’t.

You do?

Well, when you reach a certain spiritual level, you would know things that other humans would not know.

Because they are at a lower spiritual level.

Yes, you can say that but don’t put it in a derogatory sense.

What do you mean?

You see an old man through experience would know something that a young man may not know.

So?

So, the young man can learn and subsequently he’ll know.

Okay.

So the old man is not really “superior” to the young man, he is simply at a different stage of development.

There are also things that the young man knows and the old man doesn’t know.

You are right.

I am?

That’s why we should respect each other.

And we should learn from each other.

There is one more point about respect.

What is the point?

We should not disrespect others who are at a lower level of development.

Like a tertiary-level student does not disrespect a secondary-level student.

Like a secondary-level student does not disrespect a primary-level student.

Okay. Can we come back to the part where you said you were communicating with me?

Yes, let’s communicate.

But how come I didn’t hear you?

You were too buzy.

I was?

Do you remember in our second conversation where we discussed how to hear the Divine?

Yes, you said that we need to quieten our senses before we can hear the Divine.

Well remembered.

So you mean my senses were not quiet then?

Well actually, your senses were fully occupied. So, how could you hear anything spiritually?

No, I didn’t.

Exactly.

So, I should spend more time to quieten my senses.

Only if you want to evolve spiritually.

Everybody wants to evolve spiritually, right?

Not really.

Are you sure?

Look at the world right now.

I am looking.

How many are evolved spiritually?

I see what you mean.

So, not many want to evolve spiritually, right?

But why do they not want to evolve spiritually?

There are two main reasons.

Okay, what is the first?

They enjoy the pleasures of worldly objects.

Why do people enjoy the pleasures of worldly objects?

Because it’s good for their ego.

So, ego is no good?

Only if you use it inappropriately.

Oh yes, you explained the goodness of ego in our first conversation.

Yes, I mentioned that ego is like a knife. It can heal or kill.

So, we should only use the healing side of ego.

And there is another point about ego.

What is the point?

Suppose you are good in singing.

So, I am good in singing.

Is it egotistic to say you are good in singing?

Many people think it is.

So, what would they say?

They’ll be humble and say they are not good in singing.

But actually they are stating a falsehood.

So, they are telling a lie.

So, they think they are humble and non-egotistic but actually they become liars.

So, what should they say?

Just state the truth.

So, just say I am good in singing.

Congratulations.

So you mean saying I am good at something is not egotistic?

Stating the truth is not egotistic.

So we can all say we are good?

Only when you are really good.

Okay, what is the second reason why people do not want to evolve spiritually?

They enjoy the pleasures of bodily senses.

You mean we should not enjoy these pleasures?

Well, if we are too attached to these pleasures, then they can prevent us from evolving spiritually.

So, we can enjoy these pleasures but not be too attached to them.

Exactly Tom, you’ve got it.

In fact, we should not be too attached to anything.

Detachment is the key to a spiritual life.

Detachment is the key to a blissful life.

Actually, there is a reason why people are so attached to the pleasures of worldly objects and bodily senses.

What is the reason?

Because they haven’t tasted spiritual bliss.

They haven’t?

Well, you see if they have not evolved spiritually, then they can’t taste spiritual bliss.

So, they don’t know what spiritual bliss tastes like?

No, they don’t.

What will happen if they have tasted spiritual bliss?

Once they have tasted spiritual bliss, they would know that the pleasures of worldly objects and bodily senses are poor substitutes.

That’s why the masters do not go for the pleasures of worldly objects and bodily senses?

That’s why the masters prefer spiritual bliss rather than the pleasures of worldly objects and bodily senses.

So, the pleasures are not so pleasurable after all.

And then there are problems with these pleasures.

You mean even pleasures have problems?

These pleasures are only transient.

You mean they are only temporal?

So after awhile, these pleasures are not pleasurable anymore.

Then, what happens?

Then, people have to look for new pleasures.

So, new pleasures after new pleasures.

Until there is no new pleasure.

Then, end of pleasure.

Then, end of joy.

You mean no more en-joy.

There is another problem with these pleasures.

What is the problem?

These pleasures can be expensive.
