Introduction
Hi, we are The Abbotts, writers and paranormal specialists. We have over the years received many emails from puzzled women and men who are confused about love and want to know how they can both understand and find it!
Many of these people have broken up with their romantic partners or are infatuated with a desired lover, but don’t know if their feelings are truly “love” or instead, just “lust and longing”. They ask us to help them decide “is this true love or not?”
We have also as counselors, advised many unhappy women and men about their relationship problems and helped them to realise that life does have a purpose other than just living a mundane third dimensional life. They can create for themselves a purposeful, happy life with people they love.
This is what this book is all about - an explanation of what “Love” is and how you can overcome your doubts and begin to find love in your life and eventually create a better existence for yourself!
We will add channelled messages from spiritual beings such as the Ascended Masters and Archangels to add their own particular wisdom to our thoughts. They are often wise, humorous, understanding and compassionate beings! We have channelled them for over twenty years and they have always enriched our lives with their higher wisdom! We hope that you will read this book with an open mind and heart.

Chapter One
What is Love?
Did you know that in 2011, the most frequently asked question on the Google search engine was “What is love?” Millions of men and women are intrigued by this very natural but little understood emotion and they have been for millennia! The ancient Greeks puzzled over this question as much as modern day teenagers. Scientists have studied the odd phenomenon and come up with their own conclusions, as have philosophers, saints and sinners!
Throughout this book, as psychic channellers we will also add insights from the Ascended Masters and angelic beings that we speak to on a regular basis for Higher knowledge. So let us discover what all these different types of beings think of Love.
We believe that there are five major categories of love - Eros, a passionate desire for someone; Philia - A love for family and friends and Agape - A love for God and God’s love for Humanity; Universal Love - a love for all peoples, animals and the planet and Self Love.
Ancient philosophers such as Plato considered Love to be our attraction to beauty and perfection. It did not always have to be satisfied as in sexual relations as it truly was only the “ideal” that mattered! Examining the nature of it was more important than experiencing it! However, he did write - “At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.” So maybe it wasn’t just theory!
Rousseau a Genevan, 18th century philosopher and writer wrote to his friend “that love makes children of philosophers” and that “Love is only an illusion and that one sees nothing as it truly is when one is in love!”
Writers such as William Shakespeare considered of Love-
“They do not love that do not show their love.
The course of true love never did run smooth.
Love is a familiar. Love is a devil. There is no evil angel but Love!”
And “Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O, no! It is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken.
It is the star to every wandering bark,
whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.”
The Bible tells us “God, the best maker of all marriages, Combine your hearts into one. John 13:34
Writers like Victor Hugo admit that “The supreme happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved.”
While old quotes from distant lands are often cynical about love. The Spanish tell us - “Where there is love - there is pain!” And the French - “Love makes the time pass. Time makes love pass!”
Scientists have dismissed romantic love as “a biochemical reaction taking place in the hippocampus!” How unromantic! They say that we are attracted to each other through hormones and a need to reproduce!
However, we believe that Love is a higher virtue given to humankind to enhance our lives and “raise us above the animals”. By Love of course, we are not just speaking of romantic love, but love for our family; friends; people we don’t know; the planet; animals and the Godforce!
People such as Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi displayed their love for humanity in peaceful, caring ways but used action to achieve their goals! Mother Theresa told us “Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So spread your love wherever you go!” Words of wisdom!
Here is a short-channelled message concerning Love from an Ascended Master Kuthumi - “Love is the highest emotion that men and women can experience. It is a taste of what it feels like to be an angel! Angels experience love all the time, not just for a few seconds, minutes or hours, but forever!
You find human love in romance with a loved one or for your children; in friendship with kindred spirits; in living with your parents and siblings; in loving your pets and wildlife; while revering your planet and its beauties and in communion with your angels and the Divine Spirit! How fortunate you all are to be surrounded by so much love!”
Yes, we are so fortunate, but how many of us see life this way? Most of us, if we are not in a current romantic love affair, feel neglected, rejected and unhappy. We dismiss all these other types of love as insignificant or lesser, but we are doing ourselves a deep disservice!
As one spirit Joachim told us “Romantic love is the icing on the cake! Sweet, but not as satisfying as the plain cake!” In our modern world we have tended to forget this wise maxim. For we have elevated romantic love to a height never before seen!
Our ancestors would have been surprised at our preoccupation with romantic love. To them a marriage was often a matter of finding someone who was “suitable” by wealth, class, health, education and locality!
Sixty year old men often married fifteen year old girls and even wealthy women married equally wealthy men to ensure their offspring’s’ future security. In societies without government pensions or aid, both men and women had to set themselves up for their old age and for illness.
We have been misled by Jane Austen books and Elizabeth Browning poetry to believe that centuries ago young men and women could easily choose their own romantic partners and live happy ever after. This was rarely the case. But of course many men and women did often make happy, loving marriages with a compatible partner, but with divorce and separation not a normal practice, they had very little option than to make the best of a practical marriage!
Today the love axis has swung around 180 degrees. Very few women in the West marry as virgins to men they do not love for just security and prestige. Most women and men marry partners who they love and who they have already had a sexual relationship with for a period of time. Many have children before they marry and some never marry at all. As well, there are homosexual relationships of all genders that find their own special expression of love.
We all desire love, why? Because it heightens our emotions, makes us feel “alive” and joyous. When we are in love, we see and experience life in “technicolour!” Everyone is our friend and life seems wonderful. Our life seems to now have purpose and reason behind it. We can make plans for the future knowing that someone who cares for us; will be at our side, walking along beside us! We feel safe, secure and happy! Romantic love is the first subject that we will examine in this book, but later we shall also look at the many other types of love that we often ignore.
Chapter Two
Romantic Love
We all crave romantic Eros love. To have someone who adores and cares for us. But have you ever thought why? All other types of love are usually conditional, such as we expect our family to love us and so we give them love back or unconditional, such as caring about starving children overseas and helping them despite the fact that they don’t know us at all. But romantic love is just for us!
It is a taking of love from another person (and giving it back) but it is not a love that encompasses others. And it is a love that includes emotional gratification, physical touching and sex. Something the other types of love don’t usually include! It is an exclusive love that others can only observe not be part of and in many ways, it is a purely selfish form of love.
Our society promotes “true love” through movies, books and advertising. It tries to tell us that the “love of our life” will be handsome, beautiful, faithful, exciting and deeply in love with us. That our love affair will be amazingly magnificent and “a mutual stroking of egos!” But is that the very best that we can expect from a loving, long-term relationship?
From our many channelled messages over twenty years we have discovered that Spirit has a very different view of romantic love than most people believe. Here is what they have told us-
“In the beginning you were not of either sex, you were both sexes. You were fulfilled as one. When you came down to Earth, in the early days of Atlantis or Lemuria and the very earliest continents were on the Earth, you had the freedom to travel where you like, to remain on the Earth, then go up to the highest spheres at will, to be able to contact the Masters at any time, to have all knowledge of the Universe come in to you and for eons you continued to do this, until you decided it would be interesting to experience being separate sexes.
So at that time, the one was split into two - the female and the male. And you experienced for much time, being one or the other sex and then changing over, because you found the diversity very interesting. And still, you could contact the higher realms. You could travel where you like, you could create and manifest anything you liked with your mind, so truly it was days of Eden. You had great joy and happiness there.
But as you gradually incarnated more and more into the Earthly human body, you began to be pulled down and become more human, instead of ethereal. And in time you found you were in fact, stuck. From the experiences that had occurred and the many human shapes you had taken on, you began to forget about the higher realms and enjoy completely the senses of the human body.
At this time, it was decided that instead of having the male and female of your entire being on Earth at that time, you would be separated from the other, because together you had too much power and you began to use your power unwisely. And so half your power, half your being, remained on the upper realms and was left there as a guide to hopefully contact you, connect with you and help you through your life.
This is what has happened over the many, many thousands of years. Always one half of you - your Higher Twin Soul, whatever name you give it - has remained on the upper spheres looking after you, hopefully trying to contact you and hopefully, helping you to increase your vibration of Light, so that you can finally Ascend back, with your proper half.
It was decided that you must have many experiences on this Earth and in order to do this, you must meet many “kindred spirits” along the way. And so a tiny essence of your other half-being is placed in many people that you contact, as you go upon your daily work.
So that you are attracted to certain people, whether they be of your sex or the other sex. Some will always be friends and helpmates and teachers and educators, others will be your boyfriends or girlfriends, lovers, wives or husbands, or even children. But the essence of the other half of you, of your Twin Soul is within these people that you meet throughout your lives.
So by meeting them, you experience many emotions - of joy, of love, of hate, of fear, of rejection and now finally, you have come to this incarnation, which is a very important incarnation, for you all. For many of you here, it is the ending up of all karma that has occurred in the past. It is a chance finally, to send Love and Light to all those that you have injured in any lifetime or in any way have connected karmic ties that are not of the highest.
If you were to meet every single person, in every single life, that you have had on this Earth and on other places and other planets and other spheres, you would be spending your whole life, having karmic people come in and there would be far too many. And so it has been decided, that in this lifetime, that the act of Grace will come upon humankind and that merely by thinking and sending love to those individuals of which you are conscious or unconscious of having negative karmic links, that you will be able finally to sever those karmic ties with love and Light.
So I urge you all, to do that - to send out from you a wonderful beam of loving Grace, ask to be forgiven and ask that those people finally end their karmic ties with you. Once this is done, it is possible then in this lifetime, to meet what you would call - your Twin Flame. This is a large essence in one person of your Twin Soul that resides in heaven.
If you were to say that the “kindred spirits” have, perhaps five to ten percent of the similar energy of your Twin Soul, your Twin Flame has a much higher degree. Perhaps even up to 90 percent of what your Twin Flame has is similar to what your Twin Soul has. And so once you reach a certain level of spiritual consciousness, into your life will come your Twin Flame - male or female, who will bring to you greater understanding of love, both conditional and unconditional.
