I have been in the counter top business in one way or the other for the last 25 years. I started out in laminate moved on to solid surface (Corian®) and then to Granite.
All three have many things in common. But all three are very different in use. For the purpose of this book I am only going to discuss Granite countertops for residential use only.
One of the most important things in the process of purchasing granite countertops is the fabricator you choose. A good fabricator can make an average stone look good in your house, but a bad fabricator can make a great stone look REALLY BAD. If you use the knowledge you will learn in my book you can save yourself a lot of headaches, time and some $$$ also !
You need to keep several things in mind when you start out to select the perfect Granite.
Most Granite pricing is based on the color of the stone plus extras
Over 300 Granites are available (selection could take a while)
Not all Granites are the same, some are harder, some have inclusions and fissures, and some just don't make for a very good kitchen counter top!
A good fabricator will ask you about your lifestyle, wall colors, floor covering etc. before suggesting a specific granite color for your kitchen. Just because they will sell a specific stone to you does not mean you will be happy with it FOREVER.
