Author’s Note
I have struggled a long time with merging my practical side and my true side. Life became unbearable as I lost myself in the pursuit of practical measures of happiness and success. I began to feel that I had lost my voice and was slowly drowning in a sea of expectations and standards that were not my own.
My health deteriorated to the point that I was forced to reevaluate what I wanted from life. The following story called out to be written so that each of us may discover the path to living the life we each want, without regret, permission, or hesitation. I beckon you, fellow seeker, to follow me under the arch and see what awaits us on the other side.

“I can’t take it anymore!” I cried out as my alarm began to buzz. Feeling that I was losing all hope and direction in my life, I wondered: Where am I going? Where is my zest for life? Why can’t I just be satisfied?
Grabbing a jacket, I drove to my favorite hiking trail for fresh perspective. As I started along the path I heard a strange sound coming from behind me. I glanced over my shoulder, but nothing out of the ordinary caught my eye. Continuing on, I breathed deeply, taking in the damp, natural, earthy fragrance of the woods early in the morning.
