Day
Twenty Two
Day
Twenty Three
The 30 Day Facebook Challenge came about because of the hundreds of people subscribed to the 30 Day Blogging Challenge, a large proportion came to me asking what other Challenges I would be issuing.
Flattered beyond belief, I figured I'd better start thinking of some, and the 30 Day Facebook Challenge was born!
Here are just a few of the nice things the 30 Day Blogging Challengers said about their Challenge:
“Hi
Nikki, I just wanted to say I’m loving #30dayBlog, it’s
actually forcing me to bother to write something. I’m running
behind and have only got to day three so far and I might miss out the
guest post one as I did one recently but it’s certainly been
challenging. But I’m now getting equal hits to the blog as our
homepage, which has never happened before!”
“It
took Nikki’s ’30 Day Blogging Challenge’ to start me writing
blog posts. I appreciate the importance of the momentum in writing
day after day. Nikki shows how to shape the content so it is
relevant online. Last year I did a blog challenge and found it
really hard to keep up. We got daily emails with great suggestions
but in the end it was always my own choice as to what I blogged
about. I just about managed it!”
“Nikki’s
30 day blog challenge is different, as it’s very structured. Nikki
tells us exactly what she wants us to think about and write. When I
read the instructions I wonder first how I am going to do it … and
then surprise myself that it is easier than thought. I feel I’m
learning a lot more about blog writing this time, so thank you,
Nikki!”
“I just wanted to thank you for sharing your awesome 30 day blogging challenge. I often struggle to find new topics for blogs but since signing up for your daily tips I have managed to write 4 in one day! Thank you for the inspiration, I will continue to use your tips even after the 30 day challenge has ended.”
So thank you for joining me in the 30 Day Facebook Challenge: I look forward to seeing your Facebook pages, and learning more about you, as well as helping you to kick-start your Facebook page!
Nikki

I

Page no end!
A few things to note:
I'm
on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/nikkipilkington
or @nikkipilkington
You
can find me on Facebook at
http://www.facebook.com/internetmarketingbynikki
The
Twitter hashtag for the challenge is #30DayFB
– use this in your tweets so I can find you easily!
This
challenge presumes that you already have a Facebook Business Page
setup – if you don't I suggest getting one at
.http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
If
you don't have a Facebook Business Page set up, and need one, I can
help with that, although the aim of this eBook is most certainly not
to sell Facebook Pages!
It would be great if you could send me a Tweet or a Facebook post when you start this challenge, but this is by no means obligatory.
Happy Facebooking :)
Hello and welcome to your first challenge.
First, a guideline – the 30 Day Facebook Challenge is a little different to the 30 Day Blogging Challenge in that I'm going to give you 2 'challenges' each day – 1 is something to help you either enhance your page or increase fans / likes, and the second is a suggestion for something to post.
I'm going to presume that alongside the things I'm asking you to post, you're still posting general status updates detailing what you're doing today, and that's fine – I'm a great believer that a page should have more than one update a day :)
So, with that in mind, let's go!
Day 1 – Challenge 1 – A custom welcome tab
The best way to make your Facebook page stand out to non fans / likers is to have a custom welcome tab that they see. This enables you to give a message to people who haven't already liked your page.
What could you put on your welcome tab?
encouragement to like the page
a special offer code
details of your services
testimonials
your Twitter account details
a link to your website
In order to have a custom welcome tab on a Facebook page you now need to use something called iframes – this would make far too long a post for me to go into it all here, so here are a few links to great iframe tutorials
A custom welcome tab isn't absolutely necessary, but it is nice to have, and it helps to encourage people to click on your like button.
You
can see mine below:

You can find me at http://www.facebook.com/internetmarketingbynikki – drop by and say Hi :)
Day 1 – Challenge 2 – What to post?
We'll start with something easy today – I'd like you to post a message on your Facebook Business page letting people know you've started the 30 Day Facebook Challenge. You can do this with or without a link to the challenge at http://www.nikkipilkington.com/the-30-day-facebook-challenge/
Why? Well:
You'll have my undying gratitude :)
Hopefully others will say “What's that then?” and you can respond to them, generating interaction on your page
It's something else to post other than links to your website :)
Welcome
to Day 2!
Have you sent me details of your Facebook Business
Page yet? No? Pop it over now to nikki@nikkipilkington.com or tweet
me on @nikkipilkington. Don't forget to use #30dayFB in your tweets
so I can find you more easily, and promote your pages!
Day
2 – Challenge 1 – Feed in your RSS Feed
I'm presuming that you have a blog (if not, skip this bit) and that you can find the RSS feed (if not, drop me a line to nikki@nikkipilkington.com and I'll try and help).
Feeding in your blog posts to your Facebook Business Page automatically is a great way to easily share your content without having to remember to post it on the page all the time.
It also means that when you schedule posts in your blog (which I am sure you do sometimes, right?) then you don't have to remember when you scheduled them and post them into your FB page.
So, how can you do this? Well it's not as complicated as it sounds. There are a number of apps to help you do this, amongst them:
Networked Blogs - http://www.facebook.com/networkedblogs
Your pages Notes facility - http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=818
RSS Graffiti - http://www.rssgraffiti.com/
Are you feeding your blog posts directly into Facebook in any of the above ways? I'd love to hear from you. Got another way you think is better? Drop me a line and I’ll include yours too!
Day 2 – Challenge 2 – Get topical
Most Facebook Business Page owners see their page as a great opportunity to promote themselves – and of course it is! But what a lot of owners do is forget that the page isn't about them, it's about their fans / likers – and if a page is all 'me me me' then fans will soon leave.
So, today I want you to find an interesting story in any of the online newspapers, trade journals, comic sites, whatever it is you read, and post it to your page using the 'link' button above the status update box.
Be sure to use the thumbnail feature if possible and choose the best thumbnail by skipping through them using the arrows (if there's only one thumbnail then there won't be any arrow signs!)
One thing that a lot of Facebook Business Page owners forget to do is encourage their website visitors to like them on Facebook.
You may have a link to your Facebook page, and even a funky little icon that sends your visitors there, but a Like box gives so much more. A Like box shows your latest posts, allows people to like you right from your website, and shows people how many fans / likers you have.
It looks like this:

You can get yours here: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like-box/
If you have a Wordpress blog, there's a plug-in that makes it very easy: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/facebook-like-box-widget/
Day 3 – Challenge 2 – Write a note
Sometimes when you have a Facebook page it's easy to take the quick way out and post the odd status update or link, without taking too much time to think about anything.
So today I want you to use the Notes facility to write something a little longer.
It could be:
a testimonial a client has given to you
an anecdote
a synopsis of one of your services
a testimonial you want to give to someone else
anything you like!
The
important thing is to vary the content of your page, and the Notes
facility helps you to do this.
Stuck?
Drop me a line with the address of your page and I'll give you a
couple of ideas.
Day
4 – Challenge 1 – Facebook Comments
A great way to get traffic to your blog, and vice versa to your Facebook Page is to integrate Facebook comments into your blog.
