Steffi Scott, of the seminal Metal band Lizzy Borden, tells about her connection to the band besides being a member: "My husband is Joey Scott - the drummer of Lizzy Borden. He also produces and writes songs and screenplays." She describes the band's sound as "Theatrical Metal." True Metal fans need no introduction to the band, and it's great o see them still around after all these years and adding new blood (pun intended) to their massive live show.
As a female in a male-dominated genre, was there ever a problem with being taken seriously? "No, there was never a problem. It’s actually the opposite: I had the pleasurable experience of always having being treated very nicely and respectfully! I can’t think of a time when I was treated differently or not being taken serious, just because I’m a woman. Maybe that’s because the people I’ve worked with are professionals and as for the guys in the band – they are like my family by now
Steffi's favorite female musician? "I know this is not Metal at all, but my favorite female musician is Lady Gaga. She just does her thing the way she wants to, she’s an artist through and through and follows her dream, no matter what people say or think. It takes a lot of courage and strength to turn your dreams into reality like that and she’s an inspiration to me."

What is she sick of seeing in the Metal scene these days? "How could I be sick of something that I love doing so much? It's Metal – there aren’t any boundaries!"
How does she think people perceive the 'Metal Chick' label? "The ‘Metal Chick’ is a cliché – every woman who enjoys Heavy Metal is a Metal Chick!"
Lizzy Borden are arguably one of the best high-energy live bands. Your personal best stage moment? "I’ve had so many great stage moments! But my favorite ones are the Wacken Festival Germany 2010 and the gig at Vamp’d in Las Vegas 2011. Those crowds were just incredible!!!"

"I listen to a tossup between Speed Metal and Industrial Metal"
"I can't really say that it was a particular female in Metal that drew me to the scene and to be completely honest, I'm not a huge fan of female vocals in bands. As a personal preference I am more drawn to male vocals. I do strongly admire females who are in bands, especially in the Metal scene which is dominated mostly by men."
"I'm a Metal fan because to me, music is one of the most therapeutic and relaxing things in the world. Good Metal can be a great release."
"I listen to Metal daily and attend shows as often as I can but not as often as I'd like."

Jessica Perry, of Houston, TX USA-based Metal band Failed To Reason, talks about being a female in Metal: "When I used to play in an all female band, there was always a problem with being taken seriously when we got on stage. However, when we started playing, we blew people away. I always loved that feeling. Now that I'm the only girl in my band, people see the majority of male members and their interest is kept. Then when I start doing my growling vocals, the crowd is so responsive, and it always keeps me smiling."
Weirdest place she found a female Metal fan? "The weirdest place that I found a female Metal fan was when I was working at my old job, Game Stop, and someone came to check out and asked 'Hey, aren't you Jessica? I saw you perform last night!'"
"The one thing that I'm sick of seeing is the major lack of support for local Metal bands in certain cities. I believe that everyone should support their home base, because those bands, with the local fans help, will achieve their dream."
How does Jessica think people perceive the 'Metal Chick' label? "I think that a lot of females enjoy the label. It's an empowerment for females in the scene."

"The best stage moment I ever had was when my band won an incredibly insane battle of the bands contest. When I heard our name get called, I immediately started crying out of happiness, then looking into the crowd, I saw hundreds of our fans with huge smiles on their faces along with all the signs they were holding up for support. Even thinking about it now, I tear up."
"The most embarrassing Metal moment I had was during a show, while getting into the music, I hit my mouth on the microphone, insanely hard. It was pretty horrible because everyone saw it happen. I immediately turned red."
"The female fronted band I love the most would have to be The Knife. They also create a type of music that is genre-less and incredibly amazing."

Jarka Červeňáková Lovásová, of Czech Republic, Prague-based Death Metal band Designed by Death, talks about being taken seriously: "At the beginning, 16 years ago when I first started to think about playing drums most of my Metal friends didn't take me seriously. They told me I should play a flute or some typical woman instrument. Others were just laughing and really didn't take it as something I can do. In spite of this there were some guys - musicians who were wondering how it will turn out and also guys that were positively surprised about my enthusiasm and my choice of drums as my instrument for playing Metal music. I am really thankful mainly to drummers who were able to find some time to teach and let me play on their drums as for the first 4 years I couldn't afford to buy my own set. My first practicing was just drumming with hands on a table or on my knees.
