Our Introduction Note

When our state (Florida) and our school board stopped free breakfast for those on free and reduced lunch due to the changing economy, we decided to take action. Our teacher, Mrs. Hanson, has authored many books, thus we decided as a group to write two coloring books, Puppy Love and A Cat Tale. In the end, we decided that black and white books are cheaper to manufacture and fun for pre-K children, too.

How our writing project worked follows. Mrs. Hanson, our reading teacher, took all our book proposals choosing the best ideas to move forward. In other words, every student in all her classes had the chance to submit storylines and ideas for Mrs. Hanson’s approval and help.

It was not easy to finish the projects as individual classes so we shared ideas through our teacher. She asked students to draw our vision in other classes or asked people to edit and rework other classes’ ideas.

We chose the children’s coloring book format so that we could present our first copies, hot off the press, to the pre-K on our campus. We thought the on campus pre-K class would bring us just the right amount of publicity to launch our books.

All donations and class profits go to our GNAW project. We hope our effort will provide adequate funding so that our school administrators can purchase non-perishables such as Granola bars, Nuts, Apple sauce, and Water to feed our students breakfast, again.

Sincerely, Mrs. Hanson’s Students at SHS
