All God’s Creatures: Stories Old and New | by MIchael Berman PhD April 02, 2012 | $4.99 | 49702 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: Michael Berman BA, MPhil, PhD, works as a teacher and a writer. Publications include A Multiple Intelligences Road to an ELT Classroom and The Power of Metaphor for Crown House, and The Nature of Shamanism and the Shamanic Story for Cambridge Scholars Publishing. Shamanic Journeys through Daghestan and Shamanic Journeys through the Caucasus are both due to be published in paperback by O-Books in 2009, and resource book for teachers on storytelling in 2010. Michael has been involved in teaching and teacher training for over thirty years, has given presentations at Conferences in more than twenty countries, and hopes to have the opportunity to visit many more yet. Although Michael originally trained as a Core Shamanic Counsellor with the Scandinavian Centre for Shamanic Studies under Jonathan Horwitz, these days his focus is more on the academic side of shamanism, with a particular interest in the folktales with shamanic themes told by and collected from the peoples of the Caucasus. His MPhil is in Religious Studies from Lampeter University, and his PhD, submitted to the Indian Board of Alternative Medicines, explores the concept of soul loss and the way it is dealt with in the shamanic story - a story based on or inspired by a shamanic journey, or one that contains a number of the elements typical of such a journey. For more information please visit www.Thestoryteller.org.uk The shaman was traditionally a "wounded healer", someone who had been through a near death experience and who was thus considered to be well suited to helping others through traumatic times in their lives. Having survived addiction to tranquillisers, a nervous breakdown, a major heart attack, triple by-pass surgery, a serious motorbike accident, and two divorces, I suppose I could be said to provide a good illustration of the term. However, as to whether what I have learnt along the way can be of help to others, that is for you the reader to decide! |

Say for me Kaddish, An Engineer's Life and Advice | by Alan Wilcox Oct. 26, 2010 | $4.99 | 81152 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: Alan Wilcox is a typical engineer. Well, not quite typical, because every engineer considers himself a unique one-of-a-kind authority concerning his particular specialty. That expertise can, in fact, range from computers, to electronics, to widely divergent fields depending on how interesting the topic might be. An interest and a passion to study makes it all come together. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, and as an electrical engineer specializes in computers, electronics, and software. That, however, doesn't hamper his expressing opinions on other topics. And, as you might suspect, those other topics are the subject of this book. During his career in electrical engineering, he worked in a number of engineering positions and also taught at Marywood University (Business), Bucknell University (Electrical Engineering), and Lycoming College (Statistics). For 17 years he taught a variety of technical courses in computers and programming for Learning Tree International in the US and in Europe. While at Bucknell, he wrote four engineering-design and computer-design textbooks. One of the books was on computer hardware design using the 68000 microprocessor, the CPU used in the Apple Mac during the mid-1980s. After years of using the PC, he now uses an Apple Mac Pro for most of his work; PC software runs on a Windows virtual machine using Parallels. Now retired from full-time engineering, he repairs and tunes Elecraft amateur radio equipment; he is a ham radio operator, call sign W3DVX. In addition, he helps Adopt A Boxer Rescue by doing their web-based MySQL database programming to provide efficient processing of adoption applications. Alan is an active member of Congregation Ohev Sholom of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he serves on their Board and participates in weekly services. As Assistant Gabbi, he helps conduct the prayers and the Torah service. He is also Chairman of the Synagogue's Chevra Kadisha Society. |

Christians, Justice and Tibet | by John Scawen Oct. 14, 2010 | $4.99 | 25337 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: My wife and I have just completed eight years (on and off) working for a Christian charity in China, on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. A sudden visa refusal, presumably prompted by the wider political situation affecting Tibet, forced us to return to the UK with just a few weeks’ notice. During our time in China, I developed a growing concern for the way in which Christians engage with the obvious issues of injustice that affect life for many ordinary Tibetans. Concern became torment as I sought to trace the roots of some of these issues. On our return to the UK a friend suggested we attend the Willow Creek Church leadership summit in the United States. One of the speakers encouraged Christian leaders to take note of the ‘positive deviants’ in their midst, realising that sometimes they will be on the leading edge of a God-inspired new initiative. I hope and pray that this short book will be unadulterated positive deviancy of exactly this sort. |

Runaway: Cherie | by D.B. Story Nov. 04, 2010 | $4.99 | 33736 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: D. B. Story is a writer living in the southwestern United States. While that territory can cover anywhere from New Mexico to Hawaii he declines to be more specific at this time. His use of the time-honored artifice of writing under a pseudonym comes from the necessity to still maintain a day job and the habit of employers to Google new applicants to discover what stupid things said applicant is willing to foolishly do, and then doubly foolishly post for the world to see afterwards. Such invasions of one’s personal life become an unnecessary distraction. D. B. Story has long had interests in both Science Fiction (since first discovering his mother’s secret cache of Ace Doublebooks stashed under her bed) and writing. In fact, anything he has enjoyed participating in he eventually has a desire to create as well. He seriously began writing (although not selling) stories ten years ago due to a dissatisfaction with what he was reading at the time and the belief that he could do it better. He started out with the interaction between humans and the sexy robots they would inevitably create and later branched out to other erotic Fantasy and SF genres. During that time he has written everything from flash fiction to a 402,000 word novel and a screenplay based on his other writings, as yet unsold. Whether his writing is actually “better†he admits he must leave to his readers to decide, but he likes his stuff a lot. He has often said that, “Writing time is always good time.†He also says that with the advent of cheap computers, word processors, eBooks, and the Internet that times have never been better for a diversity of writers to be heard. |

Gaunt Rainbow | by Matthew Sawyer Oct. 13, 2010 | $4.99 | 86864 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: About me ... I don't have any awards - not even an honorable mention. Heck, I didn't even go to school to become a Writer - I was going to be a Fine Art Painter. Yet I had to pay my student loans. After college, I worked in Mental Health - as in schizophrenics and other assortment of severe mental disorders. All the while, I painted and drew - and wrote. I'm a Stephen King fan, so that may have something to do with my latter ambition in life. I was reading The Waste Lands (Dark Tower Book 3), much to my disappointment, and the Master's words spoke to me. King once said something about knowing you're ready to write a book when you recognize the fact - paraphrased - "You can do better." Grandiose, I know, but I knew the story I wanted to read - years of drawing monsters had spun my own mythology and I hoped for something comparable and real. The book I wanted to write would fulfill a fading desire and breathe life into the chimeras I had sketched into my notebooks. That visual mythology was collectively called "The Mortui Philosophies." I had tried animation, but the repetitive work only produced frustration. So much in fact, I joined the 'sane' world and switched careers into Internet Technology. Secure, I had stopped painting and focused on a very rewarding career. After a few years lacking expression from my creative self and a disenchanting experience with the Gunslinger, my Pazuzu Trilogy took its first breath. And there is the reason readers should read my Pazuzu Trilogy - it is a unique, blasphemous, scrubbed-til-Sunday epic. The Eighth Revision is the first pass in which I did not make major changes - I found typos and a few obtuse sentences, but other than those, the changes are smattering instances of changing blocks of text into dialogue. If my 4,000+ readers would please try Pazuzu - Manifestation again, I don't think they'll be disappointed - it's the same story now told with an Active Voice and looks downright professional opposed my miserable self-publishing effort to date. I hope readers will enjoy the free ebook version of Manifestation - the first book in the trilogy - tell everyone they know and buy the second and third book. Manifestation is background and Emergence is when the story really picks-up speed. The Seventh Revision was good, but the Eighth is better. |

She loves to read a good love story and thoroughly enjoys writing them as well. She Has No Name | by Angelique LaFontaine April 02, 2012 | $4.99 | 65188 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: My name Angelique LaFontaine. I was born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. I'm 32 years old and currently live in Dallas, TX. I am employed as a Mechanical Engineer but spend much of my time painting and writing I have been building my work collection for the last 15 years and it includes paintings, sketches, poetry compilations, novels, digital short stories and much more. I do not limit my writing to one specific genre but I tend to lean more toward fiction fantasy. I love the idea of not having boundaries when writing. If you can think it, in my story, it could happen. In 2008, I released my first poetry compilation. This collection was entitled Walking Before You Run. It is a collection of 75 poems that I've written over the years. In 2010 I released Sandstone and Mirrors: The Crossover. I have many more books and short stories that I am preparing to release. Besides writing, I love to paint and sketch. I enjoy working with acrylic mainly but from time to time, work with other mediums. Currently my work is being displayed in the Little Elm Library in Little Elm TX. It has been rotated throughout different locations in the Dallas area. Please see my website at www.AngeliqueArtWork.com for any updates. |
