Ian was for many years a ship’s chandler, part of the fourth generation in his family business, supplying merchant vessels around the United Kingdom and north west Europe. Deciding that too much of his time was spent in travelling, and looking for a job which allowed more time for a home life, he set up a local business of his own; a registered firearms dealership. However, although still fun, the gun shop has turned into a much busier operation than originally envisaged, and is now run by son Mike, with Ian relegated to the role of general dogsbody. He is also a commercially qualified pilot on medium sized twin engined aircraft. Ian and his wife Margaret, another pilot, live in Cheshire, they have three grown up children and, so far, two grandchildren. For many years writing has been his hobby, resulting in about one book a year, although never with any thought of being published. The far fetched dreams of becoming an Author have consumed me. But it wasn't always like that. Sure, I used to draw out little mash-up stories that combined the universes of Star Wars and Star Trek when I was a kid, and I even kept a 'Notebook Wrestling Alliance' together well into my teenage years. But then life kicked in. I strayed from my writing, even straying into the world of Backyard Wrestling for a minute, and it wasn't until a hurricane took everything away that I found myself falling back to the almighty pen for support. The only things I took with me when evacuating for Hurricane Katrina were, besides about three days worth of clothes, all of my journals and my 'Notebook Wrestling Alliance'. Now, to be honest I never expected the water to reach my second floor, but it did. After that all I had left was a pile notebooks. And ever since then I've hardly ever put down my pen. I became enthralled with the storm that took it all, which eventually led me to learn about other hurricanes to ravage southeast Louisiana, and that ultimately brought me to write about them. I began small, throwing out a few names and writing out a few scenes, strictly for my own entertainment. At that time the world I lived in was littered with acrobatic cars, positioned in ways that I never believed possible, and houses in the street, literally, one street had like fifteen or so houses in the middle of the street, and another dozen or so had floated across a canal to collide with a pack of apartment complexes. It was crazy, seriously. The house I, sorry, WE just rebuilt, my childhood home, had a house with the concrete slab attached from six blocks away sitting in front of it. But I digress. You get the point. Inspired by disaster, The Hurricane Journals were born. I never expected to take it this far. But, hey, look at that, I did. So I'll go ahead and see where they take me. And maybe, only if I am deserving, of course, you could come along for the ride as well?

I originally came here in 1979 with the US Navy as part of Operation Deep Freeze. I spent seven years in the navy and did seven deployments to Antarctica. I have drawn on my navy time and experiences on the ice for some of my stories. Since the earthquakes here in Christchurch I have been unable to find a job with all the thousands of people made unemployed when the hundreds of buildings in our city were destroyed. During this time I have been able to spend much more time on my greatest love, telling stories. I have drawn on my experiences from the months of frightening earthquakes, and used it as material for an authentic storyline in one of my books. Currently, I have not been able to find a publisher, but I have a wealth of intrigue, love, betrayal, war and heroic deeds just waiting for an avid reader. I have finished several stories in one series and others in the world I have created. All these are just waiting to be sent to an interested publisher. This project was borne as a result; with the aim of preserving the stories, legends and folk tales of some of the South African cultures through children. It is hoped that these books will help the youth of South Africa to re-connect with their cultures as well as to raise awareness and tolerance of others. Through sales of this book, I hope to raise funding in order to donate printed books to needy children in less privileged schools. Some of these stories have been collected through interacting with the local communities and others through research. Due to the lack of historic documented records as well as evolution and adaptation of some of the stories over time; it is difficult to guarantee the originality and uniqueness of the stories. The stories gathered have been further adapted to make them more captivating for today’s children.

He is also a commercially qualified pilot on medium sized twin engined aircraft. Ian and his wife Margaret, another pilot, live in Cheshire, they have three grown up children and, so far, two grandchildren.
