He was an enthusiastic reader of tales of foreign lands (China, Japan, Hong Kong), most of which were “borrowed” from his father’s private collection—a big James Clavell fan (Noble House, Shogun). These faraway tales provided the fertile ground which produced a rich imagination capable of spinning strange and unique stories of distant lands and people. Outside of reading and writing, he is a beginning swimmer, a gym hater, an avid gardener of Sugar Baby melons, and a lover of jokes. If you know a good one, send it his way.

Atlantis, B.C.E. by Richard Alan Dickson Atlantis, B.C.E. by Richard Alan Dickson May 12, 2012 $2.99 10377 words Sample 10%
Author bio:
Richard Alan Dickson's writings range from the traditional science fiction, like "G-Blade" and "Gateway: Left Behind," to the more whimsical "Love, Venusian Style" and the Cat Patrol Delta series. He also writes stories for young adults, with titles like "Mister Majestor's Magnificent Menagerie" and "Diver Down!" The kids and the young-at-heart are represented, too, with stories such as "The Last Great Case of the Sunny Hills Detective Agency" and the short, "Hank the Happy Snowman." Before becoming a full-time fiction writer, Richard spent twenty years in the business world. After a hungry stint as a fresh-faced stockbroker, he set aside the glamour of Wall Street—along with the thousands of friends he’d made during dinner-hour cold calls—to work as an accounting assistant in the Seattle office of a reinsurance company (yeah, he had to look that word up in the dictionary, too). Once on the corporate ladder, Richard proved that his years spent climbing trees hadn’t been a complete waste of time by quickly climbing to department manager. But corporate winds are no less predictable than any other wind, and climbing in the wind is seldom a good idea. He suddenly found himself on the wrong side of the country when his company was forced to relocate ten years later. They regrouped in New England. He remained in the Northwest. Waving good-bye to the moving vans as they motored down the road, Richard carefully considered his next career. He became a corporate consultant and ran himself happily ragged for the next nine years, traveling the country and racking up more frequent flyer miles than even a CPA could conveniently count. Richard’s final years in Corporate America were spent in a Fortune 500 insurance group. As a VP, Controller, and then an acting CFO, he traveled from one coast to the other putting the lessons he’d learned as a consultant to good use. His current career as a fiction writer takes him much further than any jetliner ever could, and he seldom needs to leave his writing loft to get there. Visit Richard online at www.RichardAlanDickson.com.

Nick Spalding is an author who, try as he might, can't seem to write anything serious. He's worked in the communications industry his entire life, mainly in media and marketing. Nick lives in the South of England with his fiancée. He is approaching his forties with the kind of dread usually associated with a trip to the gallows, suffers from the occasional bout of insomnia, and still thinks Batman is cool. Author bio:
I believe in head fakes, the crossover step and going the other way. Also, if you’re not half-cynical, you’re missing the news. I think that as soon as you say you’re going to die young and leave a beautiful corpse, it’s too late. But also, what the hell do you think anyone is going to do with that beautiful corpse? Remember the women who threw themselves into volcanoes when Valentino died? They’d never met the star and wouldn’t have liked him if they had. I believe the idiots have been running things long enough. On the other hand, it’s the smart guys who will do us in. If anything is going to save our collective butt, it will come out of nowhere. I only say that because the stuff we already know about doesn’t look that promising. I think there has never been a politician who uttered the word freedom and actually meant it. I believe in dark chocolate, black coffee and straight whiskey. Also, long running catches and short love affairs. I follow Johnny Cash, Etta James, Al Green, Joe Ely, Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Curtis Mayfield and Roy Zimmerman. I maintain that Reacher would be dead before he ever saw Parker coming. I can see Mel Gibson as a kind of Parker, but no way Tom Cruise can ever be Reacher. I think Luc Besson knows how to make exciting movies, but Quentin Tarantino is a second-rate hack disguising himself as a first-rate hack. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I was born in Brooklyn but live in Northern California, root for the Giants and don’t care who knows it. My other books include: Duh: The Stupid History of the Human Race Well, Duh! The Duh Awards The Big Book of Duh! They Did What!? Laugh Off Twisted They were all published by Andrews-McMeel and can be purchased wherever good books (and bad books) are sold.

Author bio:
Blake Ryder is an underground filmmaker. Though with two post-graduate degrees (in film study and information studies) he rejected Academia to pursue a fringe existence within Australia's burgeoning pornography industry. As an author he seeks to explore the role of sexually explicit material within genre structures. His work in this vein is atheist | secular humanist | morally relativist sexual fantasy for adults. The content, being an exploration of different genres, is often disturbing.
