Author bio:
JACOB ASHER SINGER WAS BORN in 1935 in a small town west of Johannesburg, in South Africa. After attending school at the Potchefstroom High School for Boys, he studied Pharmacy at the Chelsea Polytechnic in London, England. In 1960, he married Evelyn Jackson, and practiced successfully as a pharmacist for the next 25 years, retiring in 1985 and emigrating to Canada in December 1992. His first book, BRAKENSTROOM, is a book of short stories about Potchefstroom, the town he grew up in as a boy, and where he and his family lived for many years. His second book, THE VASE WITH THE MANY COLOURED MARBLES is now available from Amazon as an i-Book. The soft cover book is not yet available, but should be on bookstore shelves sometime in October. The story is based on true life experiences and people he knew in Potchefstroom. “There are so many stories to tell about South Africa” he says. “South Africa is a beautiful country, with a fascinating although controversial history. Unfortunately with the increase in criminal activity and tardiness in controlling violence it is rapidly falling into the ‘Africa trap.’ Jacob was never politically active, but he personally met and knew many of the active players on both sides of the political fence. When threatened by the security police for not giving them certain confidential information, he encouraged his children to emigrate, and joined them in Canada once they had established themselves.

Wherever You May Be Searching by Wes Patterson Wherever You May Be Searching by Wes Patterson June 03, 2010 $4.99 132119 words Sample 50%
Author bio:
Wes Patterson (1938-2010) graduated with highest honors from Johns Hopkins University on a full academic scholarship, majoring in psychology and creative writing. He completed his post-graduate work at the University of Florida. After leaving school, for a brief period of time, he became involved in crossbreeding and popularizing animals and reptiles as pets. He believes, he was responsible for the current "ferret pet craze" as he "re-discovered" and "re-introduced" ferrets as pets in 1964. He popularized and sold ferrets by the thousands to pet shops throughout the U.S. from his animal and reptile farm in Melrose, Florida. There are now more than ten million pet ferrets in the U.S. and just recently New York City has become so inundated with the cute intelligent carnivores that the city council is considering new licensing laws. He also popularized the malamute-wolf cross and various snakes and other reptiles as pets. He has always been acutely aware of the environment and endangered vanishing species. His other life-long interests include, paranormal psychology (regression and reincarnation) and serious literature. He was a prize winner in the annual publication of "Best College Writing of 1964". His poetry and prose have been published frequently in anthologies and poetry journals throughout the world, including Russia, India and Japan. His writing deals with life, death and love and the ageless philosophical questions of existence that ancient philosophers have been pondering since the beginning of time. In 1992 he met and married Irina Trefilieva, a Russian doctor of medicine, who came from a country where poetry and literature are greatly appreciated. In her translation, much of his poetry has appeared in major Russian literary magazines and received excellent reviews.

Having directed hundreds of TV commercials and and Music Videos, founding his own editing and design company Red Car, Bridges has been able to bring his ideas to fruition across numerous forms of media, from poetry to internet TV game shows. He is considered the primary architect of the so-called “anti-commercial.” His feature film "12" has amassed a cult following, beginning with the much-hyped guerrilla drive-in screenings in downtown Los Angeles. More recently, he directed a series of six documentaries on prominent American authors for the NEA's Big Read Program, which included Ray Bradbury, Amy Tan, and Tobias Wolff. Lawrence's book of poems, Horses on Drums (Red Hen Press), was praised by The Literary Review as being part of a new group of "Dissociative Poets" who create coherent structure through startling juxtapositions and other unconventional means. In addition, he has been a guest lecturer in the department of English at Stanford University where he holds an MA degree. In October of 2009, Red Hen Press published his second book of poems entitled Flip Days. Bridges currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife Elizabeth.

I paint pictures with orange skies and purple trees and write stories that explore the recesses of their character's minds-in a casual way. I own a little bar called Kahale's Beach Club in Kihei on the southern coast of Maui where I can take refreshment while the whales play. Maui has been home since I came to Hawaii by chance in the summer of nineteen seventy eight. One perk I have as an artist and writer is I can survive in one place about as well as any other, and so far I've found no place I would rather be. Occasionally my friends lounge in the shade of five palms that line the grassy knoll at the beach of Keawakapu - the Hawaiian word for forbidden harbor according to my bartender, Kimo Kuaana. They sip mai-tais and gin as they prattle on about this and that. Sometimes I join them, of course, but you may be more likely to find me in my studio a block away readying paintings for show or writing whatever comes to mind.

From the red deserts of Morocco, to the dark, fogged in streets of London, I have traveled the world soaking in both landscape and history to create a tapestry of collective memory. When I write, I pull constantly from this web of ideas; scraps of lectures, newspaper clippings, long lost vistas, the sensation of a soft touch, the distinctness of foreign smells. Through my craft I am concerned with stimulating all of the reader's senses, bringing to life the world and future I have constructed. My writing serves to show a possible destination, a possible vision of where we are heading. Though disturbing and dystopian, my vision is one that brings out the essence of the human experience; the choice to fight oppression or to submit, the choice between what is right and what is wrong. My characters, like most of the people I have met along my journeys, are not so clearly defined. I choose to examine their experience delving into the swirled gray shadows that exist between the world of good and evil.

Christopher Neilan is the author of the Punked Books novel Abattoir Jack. Christopher Neilan began writing seriously when he realised it was unlikely that anyone would pay to hear him play guitar, and yet more unlikely that anyone would pay to hear him explain in detail his favourite Tom Waits songs. He has been “working” in TV comedy since 2005, when Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, writers of Peep Show, managed to get him a job on a sketch show, but relations on said show took a downward turn when he pitched a sketch based on a man French kissing a cat. Work has been sporadic ever since. He has written one novel and several short stories, has worked for producers Phil Clark (Peep Show) and Ash Atalla (The Office), and has been affiliated with a number of terrible short films (and a few alright ones). He plays his guitar at night and works behind a bar. He’s studying an MA and he does not have a car. He’s moved three times in three years but he’s not moved very far. Christopher has a degree in Film Studies from the University of Kent, a diploma in Filmmaking from the Brighton Film School, and has one pair of jeans that fit rather well. He lives in Brighton.

I'm a former staff writer for The Florida Sun, (now the Pensacola Independent News), which was published, starting in 1999, in Pensacola, Florida by former Congressman Joe Scarborough (now the star of "Morning Joe" on MS- NBC). My articles were all nonfiction and ran the gamut from travel to current events and chemtrails to Bigfoot in Dixie. I'm a ninth-generation Southerner. Born in Georgia, I grew up a preacher's kid in Alabama, attended Alabama Christian College (now Faulkner University) and married a Louisiana boy. I currently reside with my husband of 30+ years in L.A. (Lower Alabama -- aka, the Florida panhandle).
