Eternal Murder | by Matthew Ismail May 01, 2012 | $4.99 | 88978 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: I am a writer of fiction and nonfiction who has lived in the United Arab Emirates and Cairo, Egypt for the last twelve years. Writing, for me, is a way of engaging with subjects and themes that intrigue me, whether that would be the life of the Egyptologist Sir E. A. Wallis Budge, the discovery of the blues, mercenaries in the Sierra Leone Civil War, or espionage in Istanbul during the Cold War. Perhaps because my father was born in Syria of Turkish and Circassian descent and my mother was a Boston-born New Englander, I am interested in the experiences of people who live between worlds, whether as immigrants, in colonial or post-colonial societies, or Western misfits living elsewhere in the world. |

A favorite city, though, remains the City of Light. The Paris he writes about is real, yet also of the imagination. Anything can happen. Is a murder more than it seems? Such are some of the questions his protagonists and others must ask themselves, while in that capital, in Steve's thrillers, Murder Without Pity and The Killing Ploy. |

One Halloween, I opened the door to two trick-or-treaters, about nine years old. As I offered them candy, one of the boys asked in an awed voice, "Are you rich?" Laughing I asked him why he thought so, and he said, "All of those books!" Afterward, I looked at the paperback mysteries, the old encyclopedia we'd acquired one volume a week at a grocery store, the assorted hardbacks from bargain tables and secondhand stores, and I realized that he's right, I am rich. -Lisa Hall Deckert |

In his alternate career he has numerous publications to his credit including technical proposals, system specifications, operator’s manuals, engineering reports, and presentations. In his first career, as a commissioned officer in the US Navy, Lieutenant Shaw supervised the operation of a Naval submarine nuclear reactor and taught physics to enlisted operators. Attention to detail in his novels stems from these formative experiences. Robert and his wife, Lori, have two adult children. |

(Or, as it sometimes seems, snow repair and road removal.) After that, she moved back to her native southern California, where she would’ve driven with the top down if she’d had a convertible. She was a resident of the Republic of Bisbee (AZ) and loved it (except on the few days of the year when there was snow). And now she’s living in Tucson, Arizona, where she would ride the range if she had a pony. But she does have a great cowboy hat. She’s written novels, screenplays, a children’s book, and short stories. She and her husband, Will Shetterly, are members of the Interstate Writers’ Workshop, aka The Scribblies. Emma and Will conduct writing workshops now and then; they’ve taught in Los Angeles, at Clarion West, the Pima Writers Workshop, and elsewhere.
