Mutation by Suzanne Morrison Mutation by Suzanne Morrison May 19, 2012 $4.99 141552 words Sample 10%
Author bio:
Suzanne Morrison was brought up in the town of Ballymena, Northern Ireland, then moved to England in 1997 to read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University. After Cambridge, she moved, via a year in advertising, into the world of finance – she worked in the City for almost six years, first at Enron, then at a small trading house and latterly as a derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs. In 2007, wanting a change of pace, and to pursue her lifetime passion for fitness, she set up her own Personal Training business, FlameFitness. Her career change gave her the opportunity to produce MUTATION and the forthcoming novel DREAMT. Following in the footsteps of both her father and grandfather, Suzanne has always been an avid fan of both spy and crime thrillers. Mutation was inspired by the idea of how small changes and seemingly simple decisions can lead to huge change both in our character and in our circumstances. In addition, Suzanne studied viruses extensively as part of her degree and, like Amanda, is both awestruck and terrified by their diversity, durability and their ability to devastate. Suzanne’s next novel, DREAMT, will be coming out in 2013.

Author bio:
My writing genres are mystery and crime, with a little bit of romance, of course. 'The Scorpian Visitant' is an epic fantasy / mystery novel in which sixties teenagers Robbie Higgins and Louise Carlton travel to medieval Oakwood to find the Death Stone of Izar. On their fantastic Odessey they find love and the reality of their mysterious origins... I also write short stories. ‘Switch’ a romantic mystery has been very well received since its publication as a free e-book on Smashwords. ‘Vacant Possession’ is a short story about a poltergeist that moves from haunting a house to possessing the estate agent who is selling the property. Another short story 'You'll Never Walk Alone' concerns a man who is too scared to tell his wife that he is about to lose his job. With little prospect of employment and many debts his family faces disaster. The tale twists at the end where the fate of protagonist meets that of the boss who persecutes him. Currently I am working on my Lucy Harlow crime short stories. The first 'Oxygen Restriction' sees our budding detective embroiled in a story of fetish and murder. This was published on Friday 20 April. The next three 'TV Torment', 'Opera Flowers' and 'Summer Soldier' are written and see our feisty young private detective on the trail of the worst kind of of serial murderers. 'Northern Star' - a blackmail story with a twist - has been completed. These stories will be published throughout 2012, with 'TV Torment' out on 19 May. Another important story for me features a central character in Oxygen Restriction, David Black. 'Double' is the story of a sucessful man haunted by his double. A disturbing mystery out in the summer. Please feel free to contact me on Twitter or Facebook. I have also have a blog, see the hyperlink. Regards and best wishes Saul

Matthew Benner's from the east coast somewhere. I'm thinkin' Maine but that's prolly cause I'm confusin' him with Stephen King. Pretty sure he lives near a West Chester but google maps showed a helluva lot of West Chesters so that piece of information proved not-helpful. If I had to guess, I'd say... West Chester, Illinois... but I'm basing that on nothing. In fact, Illinois might have been one of the states without a West Chester. He has children, too. Several of them. Matthew Benner, not Stephen King. (Though Stephen King has kids, too. I think. Did you know he got hit by a car a few years back? Poor guy...) And he's a massage therapist. And a bartender. And an avionics technician. He might be a Goddamn superhero at this point.

I wrote my first award-winning story in 4th Grade, titled “The human bean.” It wasn’t a play on words. Intending to write a profound piece about the human condition, it turns out I wrote a mutant story about a human/legume crossbreed. (Curse you, phonics!) Now I write from the unique perspective of being born and raised on a cattle ranch in Texas while attending University in Missoula, Montana, thus spawning the world’s most self-proclaimed redneck granola. The years in between haven’t improved my spelling, but they’ve created a hell of a human bean. My first book, Tainted Love: God, Sex and Relationships for the Not-so-pure-at-heart (written from all my soiled experiences) was published in 2002 by InterVarsity Press. After several years of retooling myself as a novelist (by drinking more and making less money) I reemerged in 2009 with the concept for Reeferpunk. My lovely wife and I adopted our first child from Vietnam and recently produced a second boy through more traditional means. When not spinning genius into the aethernet I obsess over home wine making, earthen construction, gardening, social justice, ultimate Frisbee and the promotion of industrial hemp. Wadmalaw: A Ghost Story by Bart Bare Wadmalaw: A Ghost Story by Bart Bare May 18, 2012 $9.99 100629 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
Bart Bare brings a perspective both broad and deep to the written page. As a child of mid-western factory workers, he experienced the passions and pleasure of an extended Italian family as well as the rich ethnicity of first and second generation immigrant neighbors. His early years were with people who desperately wanted to become part of the greater America. Bart's mother was first generation Italian, and his father the son of Appalachian German ancestors who came to American in the early 1700s. Bart's paternal grandmother was of American Indian heritage. His mother's second marriage brought Bart Bare to a small, semi-rural community in Florida, where he quickly adapted to the culture and environment of what was once a tropical paradise. He finished high school with a close-knit group of friends, and attended college in a number of Florida institutions of higher learning as he moved around the state and the south. He completed degrees in psychology from the University of South Florida, and Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Before completing his college degrees, Bart worked as a shrimper, salesman, bulldozer operator, landscaper, and in community organization. He also served three years as a paratrooper in North Carolina, and in Germany where he picked up another language. Bart retired as a college educator after twenty-seven years, and elected to follow an ancient Chinese adage which holds that the retiree, rather than stop working, must take on a completely new life: New profession, new friends, activities, and orientation. Writing is Bart's second life work which he does in his home at Blue Moon Gap on the Eastern Slopes of Grandfather Mountain just west of Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Bart, recently widowed, enjoys the wooded mountain vista and fields teeming with wildlife. His hobbies are bee-keeping, reading, and walking mountain paths. Bart Bare’s first novel, Satan’s Bargain, was first published in 2007. His second, Girl: A Novel, was released May 1, 2010 and his third novel, Wadmalaw: A Ghost Story is forthcoming March 2011.

Convicted: Impact Series - Book One by Tim Hughes Convicted: Impact Series - Book One by Tim Hughes May 17, 2012 $2.99 66067 words Sample 10%
Author bio:
I've read the About Me page of plenty of other fiction authors and I've noted the common thread. They were born with pen in hand and literary prowess oozing from their pores. They knew from the beginning that writing fiction was what they were meant to do and began honing their craft seemingly the moment they were born. Their daydreams were full of book plots and their characters lived at the forefront of their imaginations, begging to be put on paper. I don't quite fit that mold. The son of an accountant and an information systems professor, creative writing isn't exactly a family pedigree. Following my parents' example, I got my bachelor’s degree in business administration and immediately went to work as a computer programmer at a now defunct retail company. Since then, I’ve enjoyed a successful career as an information technology consultant and had the pleasure of working with hundreds of wonderful people along the way. God’s blessings have been undeniable in both my professional and personal lives. But something was missing, and I knew it. My wife and I began praying for God to use us for His purposes rather than being content with our own path. We learned quickly that you should be careful what you pray for, because you might just get it. I will never forget that morning in the shower, eyes still drooping shut as I washed my hair, when God planted His will in my spirit. He wanted me to write books. Fiction books. Books with creative plots and interesting characters. Really? Me? Surely He had chosen the wrong person. As the rest of the week progressed, the Holy Spirit made it clear He was serious about the assignment. I asked for direction, and God provided. I had so much to learn. However, learning about writing was the easy part of my undertaking. Learning to trust God was the more difficult matter. I didn’t have the skillset to produce a readable book. I was scared and completely out of my element. That is exactly how God wanted it. It was His intent all along for me to have to rely on Him. As with everything else in life, relying on Him is the only way we can truly be on target with our undertaking. It required me to swallow some of my self-sufficient pride and actually listen to God for a change. So here I am, writing my About Me page, utterly amazed at God’s grace and patience as he guides me forward. What I have learned so far is amazing. I look forward to the rest of the journey under His tutelage. I pray these stories not only entertain, but also deliver God’s intended message. Enjoy!

Author bio:
I was born into a blue-collar family in Liverpool, England. Like my peers, I grew up working with my hands until an uncanny aptitude for building computer software allowed me to trade overalls and hard-hat for a suit and tie. I immigrated to the US in the early 90s, became an American citizen, and lived the American dream. After twenty successful years in the corporate world, I turned my back on eighty-hour weeks and quarterly results and bought a run-down, dog-friendly motel in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. A close friend still refers to this decision as a brain fart; but life is a one-time play, and no one can write, and run a public company. When the worlds of finance and real estate went stir-crazy in 2005, I sold the business and moved to Lake Lure, North Carolina where, in addition to helping my wife manage a small herd of llamas, I am, at last, fulfilling my life's ambition to write speculative fiction.

I write the Sophie Anderson series - fast-paced police/FBI procedurals with lots of profiling and forensics. My books have been described as similar to Kathy Reichs, Karin Slaughter, Patricia Cornwell's earlier books and James Patterson - with a hint of TV's Medium and lots of Criminal Minds. I live in Melbourne, Australia, and developed a passion for crime fiction and storytelling at an early age. This interest was backed up through a Bachelor of Behavioural Sciences (with majors in psychology and criminology) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Writing (Creative Writing). I also hold a black sash from the Australian Tiger and Crane Kung Fu School, however I haven't studied kung fu for about three years now - naughty me. And in case you're wondering, PD Martin stands for Phillipa Deanne Martin. So far I've written five novels featuring Aussie FBI profiler Sophie Anderson. Body Count, The Murderers' Club, Fan Mail, The Killing Hands and Kiss of Death have all received glowing reviews in Australia and overseas. I've also written a sixth book in the Sophie series, a novella called Coming Home that's only available as an ebook. Prior to becoming a full-time author, I worked as a corporate writer for over ten years, writing award-winning copy for brochures, newsletters, websites, training CD-ROMs, flyers, ads, media releases and magazines.

The CarlyleDeception - no profanity version by Andrew M. Williams The CarlyleDeception - no profanity version by Andrew M. Williams May 16, 2012 $3.99 79785 words Sample 15%
Author bio:
Andrew M. Williams b. 1958, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Influenced at an early age by Dr Seuss and the masterpieces of Goscinny and Uderzo, Williams alleviated boredom and amused classmates through high-school by writing, and drawing caricatures of teachers, students and anyone else he could outrun. After six enormously satisfying years in university, he surprised everyone by graduating in 1983 with a BSc in Kinesiology. Writing took a back seat for the next dozen years, as he opted for the action and adventure of the Royal Canadian Navy. Creativity was limited to the occasional farewell roast of senior naval officers--a valuable experience in the art of skewering a subject diplomatically, thus retaining some prospect of career advancement. After the Navy he attended MBA school, worked as a cartoonist, became a stockbroker (8 years--great clients), and then realized a long-lost ambition of becoming a writer. The Carlyle Deception is his first full-length novel, and is available in the Original Version and a non-profanity edition (nothing spicier than the occasional "what the hell" or “damn”). A number of other stories are in the works, including the sequel to The Carlyle Deception. Favorite pastime: Exploring the universe. Favorite places: Australia & The Bahamas. Background: Varied, but includes the military, financial, high-technology, cartooning, and writing.

Brendan Gerad O’Brien was born in Tralee, on the west coast of Ireland and now lives in Newport, South Wales with his wife Jennifer and daughters Shelly and Sarah. As a child he spent his summer holidays in Listowel, Co Kerry, where his uncle Moss Scanlon had a Harness Maker’s shop, now long gone. The shop was a magnet for all sorts of colourful characters.
