Through My Looking Glass: A View from the Beach | by Jan Bono March 14, 2012 | $1.99 | 48254 words | Sample 15% |
| Author bio: I am a retired teacher-turned-writer on the Long Beach Peninsula, tucked away in southwest corner of Washington state. I wrote a bi-weekly humorous personal experience newspaper column for over 10 years, garnering 11 state awards. A collection of those columns, "Through My Looking Glass," was published by Kaleidoscope Press. Next I wrote "Just Joshin', A Year in the Life of a Not-so-ordinary 4th Grade Kid." It's a collection of 63 humorous classroom anecdotes. Following that, "It's Christmas!", with 47 stories and the scripts from three one-act Christmas plays. I've written almost a dozen one-act plays, and all have been performed in one of three venues. A frequent contributer to the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series, I had 12 stories accepted in the first two years I sent in submissions. I have won or placed in several local short story contests, and most recently, two of my chapter submissions for an Astoria, Oregon newspaper murder-mystery serial were selected. My first novel, a cozy mystery set on the Long Beach Peninsula, is currently seeking an agent. |

Grandpa's Short Stories | by Norman Miller March 13, 2012 | $0.99 | 18276 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: Norman Miller grew up in Alhambra, California in the 1940s, leading a band and working as a machinist. After advancing to tool and die work, marrying Peggy, serving three years in the U.S. Navy, he became twice a father. Having survived the destruction of his business by fire, he found himself in a comfortable home and in business again, still in California, until the winter of 1969 when a mudslide enveloping their home brought about a life-changing move. Norman and his family decided to sell the business, retire, and resettle in Bend, Oregon, a beautiful place they'd found on vacation the year before. There, Norman attended Central Oregon Community College to study writing, art, and photography and found that they were passions of his. In his time in Oregon, Norman wrote many non-fiction stories, painted many art pieces, took many photographs. On March 20, 2000, Grandpa Norm passed away, but left a legacy to inspire his children to create. Many stories, including the one you hold in your hand, were rejected by traditional publishers in the late 90's, but have since been revitalized and updated for your pleasure. |

In Celebration of Elastic Waistbands | by Christee Atwood Feb. 27, 2012 | $5.99 | 44374 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: Christee Atwood found her way to her current position as a speaker, author, and training and development consultant by the scenic route. She started with a background as a radio and television host, moved into positions as a newspaper editor and columnist, then a Universal Studios tour guide (yes, she can really point to her left and her right), and she even tried a stint as a stand-up comic. She was so good at comedy that she swiftly left that profession and found herself in association management, working as an executive director of trade and professional associations. From there she sneaked into the corporate world and found out that there was something called Training & Development. She discovered that in this career choice, she could talk to groups and not have to dodge vegetables and other projectiles like she did in that comedy profession. The one common thread in what she calls her “career-induced A.D.D.†was the desire to entertain, enlighten, and connect with others. And that’s what led Christee to develop her mission for life – Linking Laughter & Learning. Christee is author of 5 training books for ASTD Press: • Succession Planning Basics, • Presentation Skills Training, • Manager Skills Training, • Knowledge Management Basics, and • Ultimate Business Skills: Training the Fundamentals. Her humorous books have included • Journal of a Midlife Crisis, • Three Feet Under, and • In Celebration of Elastic Waistbands: Episodes of Imperfection, Insanity, and Occasional Enlightenment |
