The Last Letter by Jeffrey Miska The Last Letter by Jeffrey Miska March 22, 2012 Free! 4660 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Jeffrey Miska grew up Western Springs and later moved to Lagrange Illinois. A proud alumni from Lyons Township Highschool class of '79. Music was always his passion. He has played piano since age three and enjoys composing music in his free time. Jeff has also been a member of many local bands over the years as a keyboard and vocal artist. Although not actively performing, he continues to include music as a continuous part of his life. European and American military history have been a life long interest. Reading books about the history of local place names, it sparked further curiosity that led to research on ancient cultures and mythology. He spent several years being mentored in native american religion and culture, and spoke at grammar schools in Dupage county to educate children in native american and local history as well as local archaeology. Further study into his own Slavic and Belgian roots, from pre-christian culture to present day, set the stage for writing unique fiction with accurate historical references. Relatively new to writing other than short stories, his goal in creating short stories and books is to write and share in the spirit of any story teller. To entertain by narrating the simplest of human joys and express that which we treasure in our lives. If there is a message from the author in these books, it's to remind the reader how romance and friendship remain our greatest gift, and how anyone can initiate the greatest of changes with the smallest of actions. Jeff has been employed in the financial industry for most of his adult life and still resides in the Chicago suburbs.

As a kid my imagination was molded by the likes of Enid Blyton and the heroes of Marvel and DC Comics. Fast forward to modern day, and it seems those books and characters had a stronger grip on me than I initially thought. Writing gives me the ability to delve into characters and worlds that would typically be closed off to me in my normal life. An Avid sports fan and music aficionado. I tend to gravitate towards anything that involves creativity. Of late photography seems to have piqued my interest also. I consider myself an expressionist. I write, take pictures and live for new experiences.

Pegasus Falling: Part 1 of the Cypress Branches Trilogy by William E. Thomas Pegasus Falling: Part 1 of the Cypress Branches Trilogy by William E. Thomas March 21, 2012 $2.99 99094 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
William Edward Thomas was born in West London in 1925. He left The Brompton Oratory School when he was 14 and started work as a messenger at the BBC. When war broke out, his mother insisted he left central London and went to work with his father at a factory in Harrow. While still a teenager, William joined the army and was soon recruited in to the parachute regiment. By the time peace had been declared in Europe in May 1945, he had been “dropped” in to a number of key battles and become a much decorated soldier. He was still only 19 years old. Following the war, William served in Palestine until 1948. He has always believed passionately that education leads to opportunity. He has studied part time for both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree and was one of the first students to enrol with The Open University. William has six children. As they were growing up, he was working and studying in shifts as a merchant seaman and an engineer, working his way from factory shop floor to management. In his mid fifties, he decided to work full time as a lab technician at his Alma Mater, The Open University and remained there until his retirement. It was during his retirement that he decided to set himself the challenge of writing a novel. The Cypress Branches is the result. William's health started deteriorating shortly after finishing The Cypress Branches and he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2006. Shortly after the book's launch in the summer of 2009, his health deteriorated to the point where he could no longer live at home. He is now cared for at a home in central Milton Keyneswhere he is visited by his wife Sheila and family members daily.

International Financing Review - www.ifre.com - have just published an article about my novel, Laws of Contrition, which is on my website under 'press articles'. I left school age fifteen with a good grasp of of swearing, which came in handy when I worked in the City. I've two grown up children, who I hope will still be talking to me should they read my novel, Laws of Contrition, as it's somewhat different to my other two books. When I was a child there was a lovely lady called Mrs Cranston who lived two doors up, and in the summer she used to sleep in the garden - in her bed, one with an iron bedstead, and she loved her cats. A very peaceful soul she was, with a love of nature, and if I were to want to be like anyone, it would be her. When a man appeared at our street door in the early hours one morning with a gun, looking for my dad (who wasn't at home and was in a relationship with his wife), while my mum and us kids were going hysterical, Mrs Cranston (who had heard our calls for help from a window overlooking our garden) calmly came and confronted him, and succeeded in getting him to hand over the gun. As I recall he had escaped from Warley mental hospital (I am not joking). The police came and took him away. Sadly, Mrs Cranston died in a house fire. I love to write and spend too much time at my computer. I have a need to express, and was a talkative child, who wouldn't shut up, which didn't do me any favours. Thank you for reading. xx For more about me see my web site valerie elizabeth thompson dot com. xx

Author bio:
Storyteller! I'm an old West Texas boy, grew up in Big Spring, Texas. I have three children, and one of them still lives in Big Spring. I now make my home in South Texas. I've written 19 Novels and Novellas and will continue to write as long as there is a story to tell. I try to write things that young people can read. I'm a strong believer that you don't have to use descriptive sex or off color language to tell a story. I should caution you though that in an action story there is always some violence. I am an avid musician and a United States Army Viet Nam Veteran. I write several different genre and probably always will. My favorite is Action/Adventure or Westerns. My work was published by another company and is now marketed by VGR. I also can be found at several web sites. I never wanted to be a great author or counted as one of the really intelligent people of our time. All I've ever strived for is to entertain. I write stories about people who struggle to be who they are. It may sound strange, coming from a fiction author, but I try to make my characters believable. It is an honor that you're interested in my work. A writer or a musician is nothing without someone to share their creations. Thank you for being that person. You may also find a song or two that I've written on You Tube. Please join me on Facebook with the rest of my author friends. I enjoy comments and having my readers drop me a line, so when you run across my sites or find me on Facebook, feel free to write me. It might take a day or two to get back to you, but I will.

I was one of those kids always noodling with words, writing nonsense stories and animal adventures. I got a serious case of the word flu when I was asked to write an article for my high school newspaper. It is a disease from which I have yet to recover. In the intervening years, my work has appeared in daily newspapers, monthly magazines, extensively on radio -- and the occasional dalliance with television. I have written advertising copy and radio commercials. There is a bucket filled with awards sitting in my garage and I continue to write, write, write. Also featuring my byline are: a collection of short stories called "Forever -- and other stories," the novels "The Life Line" about the earthquake that levels San Francisco and "News on the Home Front" about two friends during World War Two, and the children's book "Mama Cat." Also, several short plays, a few radio plays and a boat load of radio documentaries. I am currently working on a novel of Paris in the 1920s and collaborating on an encyclopaedia of melamine plastic.

I have one grandfather who was a builder. My other grandfather was a stonemason and my father was a traditional blacksmith. Both my grandmothers had cooked for a living, one in a hotel and the other for well-to-do people. A career in construction or perhaps engineering or catering would have been obvious choices. Instead, I spent 20 years in business and in mid life retrained myself. I chose to work with my hands as my father and grandparents had. I become a renowned woodcraftsman and founded with my wife an art and craft gallery in a Tasmanian tourist town. After 20 years there, we followed our children to mainland Australia to retire on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula. I took up writing seriously in 2003. Working with their hands, creating and shaping materials has occupied my forebear. From stone, to iron, to wood. Now I spend my time putting pen to paper. The medium is getting softer.

I am a coordinator for a high risk dog rescue. We take in dogs with health or behavioral issues. We operate constantly at capacity. I also belong to the Animal Army which is a group who shares information to try and help those who have no others to step in and help. We share information about prospective homes, dogs in need as well as happy endings to help keep each others spirits up. Rescue can be a very exhausting and emotionally wearing vocation. I blog when ever I can find the time, as well as being a full time student, mother, grandmother and wife. I hope you enjoy my stories and I always welcome constructive criticism of my writing, just be nice. I have a presence on facebook for both my rescue and my personal page. And almost always welcome new friends.

So who is this guy? First, I'm someone who, over the years, has found himself thrilled, shocked, moved, unnerved, startled, intrigued, baffled, and swept away by a variety of stories from all corners of the human imagination; stories that reached me in nearly every form—books, movies, the spoken word—a story can take. What did my favorite works all have in common? Not a thing, other than that a person took his or her love of language and used it to make a world so astounding I had to visit it again and again. Second, I'm someone who enjoyed my trips to these worlds so much that, after awhile, I decided to try creating a few of my own. Since 2007 I have managed to generate an average of one novel or novella-length story each year, as well as a handful of short stories to accompany them, which I hope to make available here really soon. Finally, I'm someone who loves to be amazed. Aren't we all? And the best way I've found to stay in perpetual amazement is to always keep learning, exploring, listening, and searching. You'll never grow old, at least not in your mind, so long as you're greedy for new knowledge and experiences. Deep thoughts from a man who uses a piece of cake for his profile picture.

I was born in Philadelphia, Pa., and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. After studying in Mexico, I spent the next few years traveling around the world with my art equipment. I lived with the natives in Tahiti, the Canary Islands, Spain, Italy, Greece and Israel, dividing my time between painting and studying the language. A painting companion in Tahiti was Paul Gaugain’s son,. Alas, his work did not compare with his father’s. During my stint as sketch artist for NBC, I rendered the sketch of Howard Hughes as described by the two pilots who last saw him alive while flying him from Mexico to Texas. This sketch was shown in newspapers around the world. I began to write while my children were in their teens, during which time I earned a living as a handwriting analyst. My first published book was “How to Really Know Yourself Through Your Handwriting. Other books on handwriting followed, then novels and stage and screenplays. My screenplay “J’adoube” won the 1990 Florida Screenwriter’s Award and I was off to Hollywood. I have just retired a handwriting analyst, though I continue to act as a consultant. I reside in Palm Springs, Florida with my little Sophie. She’s a dog.
