The Shadows of the Multiverse | by Doug Dandridge Feb. 05, 2012 | $0.99 | 95114 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: Doug Dandridge was born in Venice Florida in 1957, just a month before the launch of Sputnik. Doug read his first science fiction novel, Robert Heinlein's Citizen of the Galaxy, at the age of six, and then went on to devour every piece of fantastic literature he could get his hands on. H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Robert Lewis Stevenson, Bram Stoker and Mary Shelly were soon followed by more Heinlein, Asimov, van Vogt, Leinster and others. These were followed by Robert E. Howard, Burroughs, Moorecock and many more. Doug was also fascinated with history and science, and devoured as many books in those genres as he could. Doug's military experience included Marine Corps JROTC, active duty US Army, and a stint in the Florida National Guard. He was an avid student of martial arts and spent many an weekend in the woods with the Explorer Scouts. In the Army he was an expert with every weapon he put his hands on. Doug studied Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geology, and graduated from Florida State University with a BS in Psychology. He studied Clinical Psychology at the University of Alabama, with special interest in Neuropsychology and Child Psychology, earning a Masters and completing all the course work needed for a PhD. Several years ago Doug attempted nursing school, taking courses in Anatomy and Nutrition prior to dropping out of the program due to health concerns. Doug has worked in Psychiatric Hospitals, Mental Health Centers, a Prison, a Juvenile Residential Facility, and most recently for the Florida Department of Children and Families. He has been writing on and off for the last fifteen years, producing Near and Far Future Science Fiction, Urban and High Fantasy, Horror, and Alternate History. Doug writes intelligent science fiction and fantasy, with characters who are strong and smart, only defeated due to the greater strength of their opponents. Says Doug, I will never end a story with they all died. I believe people want good stories where the characters they cheer for triumph, maybe not winning the way they want, but winning nonetheless. They want stories of hope. I do not like writing that is so fresh and cliche free that they are incomprehensible, and I will not write such stories. |

Trouble on HighGard | by Ryan S. Fortney Feb. 05, 2012 | Free! | 5702 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Thinking, always thinking. Every time his fingers hit the keyboard or pen hits paper, something new bleeds out. There's no stopping the monster machine that is Ryan S. Fortney, author of books like PaxCorpus and hilariously short stories such as White Night. But the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania born author wasn't always this way. For a long time there was a power struggle between his mind; his creativity and the outlet through which it would seethe. Growing up, he had been extremely fond of illustration and cartoons. He'd sit around watching his favorite shows and with a pencil and a little tablet, he'd mimic that particular artist's style. In his teenage years, his sketching continued, yet he could never reach the greatness that he believed to be all around him. It just never felt right. The very last thing he drew was a strange work of sorts - The face of a woman and two characters that he thought might star in a comic book series. These very characters ended up being the start of something bigger and greater, when he'd turn 23 and finally discover what outlet he would settle into, finally, after many grueling, painstaking years. Ryan S. Fortney graduated High School with a diploma and exceptionally high grades in English and literature. Later, he would attend a few college level creative writing courses and begin his descent into writer madness. |

Barton trained as an educator and artist, worked in clinical settings with children and adults, and now develops family caregiver education. "I believe in family caregiving. The truth is love is never enough to get you through the experience. You also need tools to help you give the right kind of care and to avoid caregiver burnout. An educated caregiver is a care manager, with resources and support. Good family care is about making your loved one as active, independent, and comfortable as possible. It makes your job easier because your loved one is more engaged in the care plan. It's important for every caregiver to still maintain goals, hopes and dreams. You should never give up yourself completely to the care. Balance is key." |

Heart of Gold | by Christine Pope Feb. 05, 2012 | $4.49 | 95614 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010, followed by Sympathy for the Devil in December 2010. Releases for 2011 included Breath of Life, a science fiction reinterpretation of the classic Beauty and the Beast story, and Bad Vibrations, a paranormal romance romp featuring a psychic, a ufologist, and alien conspiracies. Not one for being pigeonholed into just one sub-genre of romance, Christine Pope writes as the mood takes her, and her work encompasses paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection. After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor and graphic designer in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California, and in fact just returned to the town where she was born, thus disproving the theory that you can’t go home again. |
